Nasal Suction

Hi girls, as some of you have read, ds is sick and continues to have some congestion. I continue to use the bulb to suction but he is really fighting. I have to hold his head to suction his nose. Ohh, it breaks my heart. Any better ways to get all the goop? I haven't tried the saline spray. Have any of you?

Most of the time I have to wait until he sneezes it out. But sometimes when I do try to suction it out he just smiles. My kid is so amazing! Sorry I have no ideas for ya.

Gretchen actually likes it when I suction out her nose (she didn't when I'd try to do it when she was half asleep though), but I make it like a game.

Our dd fights us too- she is 12 mos old, unless we do it while she is sitting up. When we lay her down it is an all out battle! Is your child old enough to sit up?

We use the saline then suction. It isn't fun. Takes both of us to do it, but I get more gunk out that way....

No, he's not sitting up yet. My dd likes it when we suction her now that she is two. What is it about the suction that they hate so much?

My ds is sick too and hates that! I've tried the saline but it's hard to get it up his nose. It's definately a 2 person job to hold him down! Hope he's feeling better soon, how old is he?

I know what you mean. Holding him down is like torture to them, but after its done, they feel so much better.

Yes, it works well in loosening up mucous that has hardened. One drop in each nostril, wait a minute and then suction out. It works wonders. I've also noticed that when I put my 3 month old down for tummy time, that brings some of the mucuous forward and out (gravity from being face down I guess).
