OT Another Vent She Stuffed Up My Wedding Dress

im so excited, im getting married in 9 days! except for one thing...my confidence is shot because the dress maker ruined my dress! i gave her a specific design, colour, shape yadda yadda....and she got the colour wrong, the design and the shape!! im so p___sed off.....i wanted to be atleast 80% happy with my dress so i have the confidence to get through the day with all these ppl starting at me....i dont want that if my dress is ugly! because of the type of detail she put on INSTEAD of what i asked her, it looks like an old ladies dress! im 24! i found her through a VERY popular wedding and formal wear store called spurling, and she actually makes dress's for this company, and they are beautiful dress's. well, i told her champaine colour, i even took her to spurling and showed her the exact colour i wanted, and she said that she would be able to get that colour or close. i told her to put detail pearls and sequence along the front cross over bit, and make it so its very thin, faint so it blends in with the dress, and i told her i wanted the straps thin, and showed her exactly how thin i wanted them...which seems easy enough right? well the dress is BROWN, the detail is even darker and VERY thick, and she had hand made it, and she cant bring in the straps because of the thick detailing on then....OMG...if i tell her something, why does she do the opposite....i swear ive had so many problems with this lady, she has been doing it for 30years, and is very busy thats why i picked her. but when my best friend went in there to try on her bridesmaid dress, this lady told her to loose some weight because she doesnt look good in it!....how the h__l does she make friends. i dont know what to do, but im going to ask my nan to try and pick off the detail atleast so it doesnt look so c__p. i hope ppl dont think im a bridezilla or anything, wouldnt you be upset if your dressmaker said she could do it, then turned it into a disarster 9 days before your wedding??? i mean this whole outfit thing has been a disarster, first i rdered three dress's off a seller on ebay for over $550 and they were all c__p, so that money down the drain, then this lady did a diff design for my bridemaids as well as my dress....i just wish i could go in thongs, shorts and a lazy tshirt and protest aginst this stupid dress tradition!

That's awful! Can you go out an buy a dress from that same shop you mentioned? You still have some time. fyi - thong in Canada and America means up-the-b___t-crack underpants...lol..know what I mean? lol! I'm sure you will find something you like. keep us posted!

thx brady love. i cant afford to buy another dress. this dress is going to cost $800.which i though was a good deal because all the dress's in the store are $1200 plus. our budget is already out the door so im lumpered. :o( :o( :o(

Do you HAVE to pay for it? If she didn't give you what you specifically asked for, you should get your money back! It just doesn't seem right that you would have to pay for it.

Oh Dee I'm so sorry to hear about your dress. Hopefully your nan can fix it up and get it looking like something brand new!!!! Try not to stress about it...your getting married! I hope things work out for you! Oh and I would have ripped a strip off that lady...I hope you did! Hope everything else goes to plan!

Wow that seems like an awful lot for a seamstress made dress. You must live in an area with a higher cost of living. Did you supply the fabric or did she? Did you not have any fitting along the way to make sure the dress was going OK? If she didn't make what you ordered, don't pay her or make her correct her errors. It is the same as any other transaction. As a hairstylist, if I didn't deliver on what I promised, the client gets her hair redone. I don't know why she couldn't take off the detailing she did to make the straps narrower. For what you paid it should be hand st_tched on which is easy enough to take back off. While I didn't have my dress made, I had serious alterations done (dress brought in 1.5 sizes, the train bussled, and some detailing removed - I was pet_te and it was just too much) and I had 4 bridesmaid dresses made. I supplied the fabric and other supplies and just paid her for her service.

ok girls, ive decided to call her and ask her to take off the detailing and make the straps thiner. i didnt say too much about the detailing to her because she would have just bit my head off, and i felt bad because she hand made it all. but i want to be happy...she will proberbly try and tell me that she cant do it and hang up knowing her! she is engaged at the moment, but i will try again in a few minutes and demand it.....if i have the guts, im a wimp.

dee23 - February 20

well, i called her up and politely told her that i wasent happy with the detail, and if she could remove it from the dress and thin out the straps. she got all narky with me and told me to go and pick up the dress and that she never wants to speak to me or see me again...then she hung up....to say the least im a little upset. dh (to be) is going to call her to tell her that we will not pay her the next $650 if she does not alter it, and because i am unhappy, he will ask for the deposit back to. now i have a total of 1 week to find a nice dress off the rack with a very unco-operative baby (hates shopping, babysitting not an option). i feel horrible because this whole dress thing thing has been ruined. first ebay took our money, now this dress, and the bridesmaid dress's....i just feel like we are being abused. i cant beleive the way she spoke to me, as if im not a customer and im not paying her to do her job??? obviously she cant take alittle feedback....and i was being nice...geez...how the hell am i going to find another dress.....looks like the thongs and board shorts might become a reality.

oh and dh called her and she has her phone switched off. do you think i should go and pick up the dress? do you think she ment that she doesnt want anymore money and that i can just pick it up? if so then i can just ask my nanna to fix it....then it would have cost the deposit only.......what should i do?

go to the store and demand to speak to the manager--relay your story to her--if the manager is uncoperative, ask to speak to the store owner---if the owner isn't cooperative, tell them the media will hear about this and go to the media---everyone has a boss. This lady did not keep up her end of the contract, so you have every right to complain and demand a refund. If she doesn't take her to small claims after the wedding... Just remember dee you have every right to complain...be nice as much as you can, but don't let them walk all over you.

dee23 - February 21

thx smileful. i went and picked up the dress. i didnt pay her anymore money, so atleast, if i cant get it altered, then i can sell it for the deposit. it is by no means anywhere near finished, and as i said the colour is all wrong. we'll see what happens.

You've got to report her to the shop that recommended her! Do you have her address? I'd write and tell her you are considering legal action for failure to deliever goods as promised and for stress and aggrevation she's caused you. Whether you intend to or not (and it is a litle OTT) it might put the wind up her sails and make her get her act in gear. had you not been for fittings though before the final design was done and complete>? When my sister had her bridesmaid dresses made, we had to go for a final fitting when it was all just pinned together, it wouldn't have been too late them to say "oi! You've fluffed up!" I#m sure you'll find a nice dress in replacement. Just think, fate has obviuously decided that the right dress for you is still out there. Can't relatives not help with the baby whilst you shop?
