OT Tempurpedic Or Sleep Number

Trying to talk dh into a new bed! We currently have a standard inner spring mattress and foundation. I have FM and have ALOT of neck, shoulder and hip pain.....along with every other part of my body but those are the my major problem areas. I end up sleeping on the sofa alot because sleeping in my bed causes such great pain. I wake up so stiff and sore that I just can't handle it sometimes. Dh has recently developed arthritis in his right shoulder so I'm hoping to use that to my advantage to get a new set as he's been complaining as well that the bed hurts him......I know that sounds mean, but the fact that it caused me pain just didn't seem like enough motivation for him to fork out the dough! Anyways, I've seen the infomercials for both beds, but was just wondering if any of you real, NONPAID people, have one that you could give a testimonial about. Did you have any previous pain problems that were alleviated or eliminated by one of these beds? Which one? Any problems with either? If anybody has any experience with sleeping in both kinds that you could give me some comparisons that would be super-great! I know this probably sounds goofy, but I don't want to sink alot of money into a bed without having an idea about what it's like from people who actually have it, kwim?

Rabbits i dont have one of these, but i really need one. I have been having the worst shoulder/ neck pain. I really want the memory foam mattress and pillows. I hear they are really good ! Right now we have a pillow top mattress that we have had for about 4 years and it is getting worn out fast ! How long are you supposed to get new matress's anyway ?

We don't have either but before our move we checked both out and the sleep number is slightly like a water bed in te fact that is just air and it is just a matter of how much air you want or dont want (like a water bed) I have a few friends who have the Tempurpedic and they love it the Sleep number guy advised us against the tempurpedic due to the fact that it retains heat (don't ask me how) and when we were living in AZ that seemed lik an issue now that we are in WI I'll take it. Sorry not much help. Oh you can get memory foam pillows and see how you like those first!

I'm not sure about the time frame but we've had ours since we got married 15 years ago and I know that is WAY too long. We bought one of the memory foam toppers at Wal-Mart but I didn't see much difference in my bed with it on there. I think the Tempurpedic is the memory foam...right? I watched a sleep number infomercial this morning that said tests showed the memory foam mattresses start breaking down after 2 years and were no longer supportive. Of course, they aren't going to say anything good about a rival mattress company...that's why I wanted some live feedback on both products:-)

Hey, i've got one of those memory foam matress covers. My mum bought me one for my bday when i was pregnant because i was so uncomfy and couldn't sleep i looked like a zombie! They are great!! I can't remember which brand it is precisely but it has helped my neck and back pain out alot, she got the pillow for me too. If you don't want to shell out alot at first get the thing i have. It's a matress cover about 2-3 inches thick made out of the memory foam and is a lot cheaper than the full matress itself. That way you can try it out first to see if it works before splashing out. I do however HIGHLY recommend the pillow, both me and my hubby would never go back to a normal pillow again!

sorry rabbits, posted at the same time as you, guess there goes my suggestion :o)

That's all right vonzo ;-) Actually, I may need to try the memory pillows as that's something I've not tried....that may help with my neck and shoulder pain (not my hips though). I've been sleeping with this pillow that has little bead thingies in it and it helped when I first got it, but now no longer seems to. DH likes it though and I have to pull it out from under his head if he goes to bed before I do...lol.

I have the sleep number bed and my best friend has the tempurpedic.. I like the sleep number bed because I can adjust it to what feels comfortable for me that night.. I'm weird, sometimes I like a super firm feeling and some nights I want to just sink into the bed.. With the tempurpedic, it's always the same.. It IS really comfortable though!.. But my DH didn't want to get it because he thought it was TOO soft... he's a big guy (6'2'' and 275lbs...) so I think all his weight made him sink in more.. lol.... notice they never have fat people on those tempurpedic commercials?? LOL...

My matress has a tempurpedic top. I love it love love it. I don't With our old matress I felt every turn and twist hubby made ( I am a light sleeper) now I sleep all night (if lo allows lol).

We have a Sleep Number. I have back pain and when it flares from working out too hard - I love that I can firm my mattress up to help my back out while my husband sleeps in cushy comfort. We both change ours all the time to relate with how we are feeling. When I'm sick or sad - it has to be super soft and when I have back pain (more often lately) it has to be firm. My husband throws his remote into the bed with me on Sundays when I sleep late so I can make his side softer because I like to sleep horizontal across the bed. We like ours. It is a lot of money, so you're smart to think it out!!

Connorsmommy, my dh is pretty good size, too. He's 6'2 and 235 lbs. Your post made me think about that commercial where they are talking about some hotels claiming to have the best beds (or something to that effect)...it shows this bed with the blankets on it and it looks like no one is in it, but then the person pushes the blankets off and their whole body is sunk down in the mattress...lol....it's so funny.

lol Rabbits!..yeah, pretty much like that ;) ... okay, well maybe not THAT much =P

The tempurpedic is hot. I do not have one, but a family member of mine moves theirs to the guest room during the summer, which was how I ended up sleeping on it. I have had 2 tempurpedic pillows. The contour one I gave away because it would throw my jaw out of alignment during the night. The regular pillow shaped one is the one I usually sleep on (except for the summer - too hot) and it really helps when my neck is causing me pain.
