just a vent here...last night i was in class and someone busted out the back passenger's window in my jeep and stole my purse(containing my wallet and checkbook) that i had concealed under the front seat!! : ( i know in a way it is my fault for even leaving it in there, but that still gave no one the right to destroy MY personal possessions and steal from me!) i am so upset and p___sed. luckily, there was no account activity (i couldn't believe it, but oh, so thankful) and we have cancelled everything and just need to open a new account and i have to get a new license. oh, and of course, get the window replaced. so ladies, BE WARNED! we can never be too careful, even when we think "hiding" our belongings in our locked car is sufficient...i sure learned my lesson the hard way!

Don't they have lockers at school,as for the window does insurance cover the cost of the window.

Oh my gosh, that's awful! Our family frequently puts our purses in the trunk and lock's them, and I've hidden my wallet under the seat before too. Sad. Actually, several years ago, my step dad had parked his car overnight near a highschool and when he came back to get it EVERY window was busted out and the CD player was missing. What is wrong with people???

lisastar--the way the school is set up, the lockers are on the opposite side and since i'm part-time, i'm not even sure if my cla__s has access. bottom line--i should have just taken it in w/me. and yes, my insurance covers the window...YAY! piratesmermaid-- i am under the impression that it was a bum who broke in (they congregate at the church a block away--this is in pittsburgh btw) because they ransacked my jeep but only took my purse... left my cd player, dvd player, case full of cd's... i even had a stroller in the trunk(not that a thug would really want a c_mbersome stroller, but hey, if they wanted to sell it , or whatever...anyway..there was no account activity , so maybe they just wanted cash?? a shame violate someone and put them through so much panic and inconvenience their life so much just to toss their stuff.(i'm a__suming). don't get me wrong, i'm extremely thankful whoever stole from me didn't use my money, but seriously, why go through the trouble?? there were 3 1/2 potential hours to have used it...i fantasize about the cops finding out who it was (i know , highly unlikely) but there were security cameras in the lot) just so i could face them and tell them what a piece of c___p they were..that would make me feel better, lol. cop said there has been a string of these and he had another call a hour previous to mine a block away-- an old woman's car was busted up and her groceries were stolen... like you said, what the HELL is wrong with people?!?!?!?!

I had the same thing happen to me at work while I was in college. The cop told me that someone either watched me cram it under my seat or it was someone I worked with that knew I didn't bring my purse into work with me. In my case, they went to the local liquer store and got three kegs with my credit card - they at least could have invited me to the party!!!

Also - I had less than $11 in cash in my purse, but the purse itself was worth about $75, the wallet was worth $25 and had about $50 worth of makeup in it. That was what I was most upset about. The cc company reimbursed me for the fraudulant charges and the insurance took care of the broken gla__s, but out was just out the money for the purse, wallet makeup.

yeah, i am probably most upset about the pics of my kids that are gone : ( i had pro-pics of my son from last year and they were such great pictures of him, but i don't have anymore, i gave all the rest out to friends and family!

UGH! my dh is in the same boat as you.. sort of. He's a construction superintendent and keeps ALL of his tools (worth about $3000) in the back of his truck (locked). TWICE they've ALL been stolen! Guess where his truck was?.. In our DRIVEWAY in a GATED COMMUNITY!! It happened for the first time about 6mos. ago and the next day our insurance company had the money back in our account... but this time (it just happened, again, a few weeks ago) the insurance company is taking FOREVER to get us the money because they think we are trying to commit insurance fraud.. which I can see why they think that (it does seem fishy), but my dh needs his tools!!! Some people!! Can't they make their own money and instead of stealing other peoples things??!?!?! Sorry to sort of take over your post.. I just wanted to share my story to let you know you're not alone!! oh, yeah.. they caught the guy who stole the tools the first time (he left fingerprints on the window he broke... IDIOT).

Hi Lindsay sorry this happened to you and I do not want to add to your anger or your feeling of being violated but I do want to warn you....I am an insurance agent and unfortuanatly deal with this all the time.....I would be most concerned about ident_ty theft on your behalf. If they got your drivers license etc then (and even without it) this is a real concern. If you have a homeowners policy or even a renters call your company and ask if they offer ident_ty theft coverage. Important: I am not saying to tell them about the theft because you do not have coverage I am sure for this on your homeowners or renters because your loss is too small but just inquire if they offer this coverage and the cost (we charge 30.00 a year for 25,000 worth of coverage including lawyers). In tennessee we offer this ( I work for Allstate Ins) and have had now 4 claims in the last year and they all when traced came back to the fact that at sometime these people had their purse or wallets stollen. If you cannot get the ident_ty theft coverage then you DO need to keep up with your credit report and make sure things do not appear that you did not buy. I had a customer that went to get a refinance on her house and found out she was maxed out on credit because she supposedly owned a house in texas and 3 cars.......of course she did not but it caused her oddles of trouble and she even had to hire a lawyer........(she did not have the ident_ty theft coverage) and she ended up paying out over 10,000 and the people were never caught. You are allowed a free credit report from each credit reporting agency per year .....experian, equifax, and transunion.....look these up on the net and call to order your report in a couple of months and do this religiously for the next 5 years.......you do not want to find out this has happened to you when you really need a loan and cannot get one cause of someone being a a**hole. If you have any questions feel free to ask....have a nice day!!

austinsmom--thanks for the tip! how can they do all that(the house, cars, etc) w/out a social security # is what i'm wondering?? and as far as the insurance, my homeowners and car insurance are through the same company, so wouldn't they be suspicious of my inquiry due to "pre-existing" conditions??

austinsmom - January 31

You would be amazed how easy it is to obtain your social security number.......If someone has your address, name, dob and knows their way around the computer it is simple to get ss.......it makes it extra easy even if you are not a wiz at the computer to get the ss# if you have a person's dl#. If I for instance was that type of person I could have stolen lord knows how many peoples ident_ties and they would probably never know how it happened....scary huh? Anyway it is happening more and more which is why the ins companies are now offering this type of coverage. Now to your "pre-exisisting" conditions question.....you will have no problems purchasing this coverage as your ident_ty has not be stolen at this time as far as you know......it is a real possiblity that it could happen but it is not considered pre-exsisting at this time...."pre-exsisting" by definition is something that has happened already and now you are buying something to cover it...for example your window is busted out right? Well say you did not have comprehensive on that vehicle and you called the ins co up and said I would like to add comprehensive......1 week later you put in a claim for the window......since the window was broken before you bought the coverage then it was "pre-exsisting" before you bought the coverage and would not be covered. The only pre-exsisting thing now is your wallet is stolen not your ident_ty what you are doing by buying ident_ty theft coverage is insuring yourself against the possiblity that these people may try to steal your ident_ty which is a viable reason. Keep in mind you do not have to have a reason to buy ident_ty theft if it is offered (though you have more reason than most) you just have to have the desire to want it and the ability to pay for it.
