My dd has had diarrehea for two weeks. Talked to her Dr. she said to change her formula to a lactose free formula but it is still not helping. Has anyone else had this happen to their babies? My lil girl is 10 months old I have been doin the whole BRAT diet thing to no avail. PLEASE HELP. I need suggestions. I am afraid she has something seriously wrong with her.

Did it start with an illness? Are her dirty diapers SUPER stinky? Max got rotavirus (which can be mild or severe) about a week and a half ago and the diarrhea just kept going on! I called the ped about ways to thicken his stools since he acted like he was feeling better, but the diarrhea just wouldn't quit. She said it could go on for 3-4 wks and as long as he wasn't getting dehydrated that it wasn't a problem. Well maybe not for her, but it was a problem for us! We were scared we would all get reinfected with the illness. Somebody here (I think haymay) suggested Similac Isomil DF. It is a soy formula with special fiber in it that bides to the water and thickens the stool. It worked great! Sorry if this is really gross, but it made his stools look like whipped dessert consistancy instead of water. The only place you can find it is at Walgreens and it only comes Ready to use so it is a little pricy. I mixed it 50/50 with his regular formula. Once I ran out I switched over to using regular soy formula mixed 50/50 with his regular milk based formula. His stools are still soft, but not diarrhea. You can also try acidolpholis powder (the active stuff in yogurt) which will help put back the natural bacteria balance in the intestinal tract. You can get it at health food stores. I couldn't find a dose for LO so I gave him 1/2 of the contence of 1 capsule every day.

She just had a runny nose before the diarrehea started. Her diapers are not really stinky, sometimes I dont even know that she has gone which was a problem because then she would get a rash. Just when I think it starts to get better its starts up again. What foods if any are you feeding your lil one.GOSH I just hopes it stops soon I cant afford all these diapers!!!!

Max is only 6 months, so he isn't eating nearly as much stuff as your LO. I am only giving him rice cereal now, since it is constapating. Have you recently started a new food with her? Could it be a wheat sensativity?

I dont know. I have been giving her Cheerios

I would be tempted to take away all solids, switch to soy and see what happens. If it stops, switch back to her old formula but still no solids. If you are still good, start adding in one food at a time feeding each one for 3 days (like when you first introduced solids) and see if something sets her off again.

I did have a problem a few months ago with hives but could not figure out what was causing it. Thanks soo much for your advise.

No problem. It sure sounds food related since there was no preceding illness. I would look up wheat sensativity and see if you see any other symptoms.

natalias mom-I have been having this problem for over 3 weeks now. after 10 days the dr. sent me to get him a stool test done and it was 100% fine. I have literally gone insane with this whole thing and I cant even see the end of it... my ds is 5 months old. i keep putting cream on and washing him under water instead of wet wipes, but I know that as long as he poops 10 times a day, no creams will help. I have also freaked out 100 times and ive run to the dr at least 5 times about it... I've given up. Oh and by the way, I started buying the really cheap diapers b/c he was using up a whole pack in under a week. and for my ds it doesnt seem any sensitivity at all. i started adding cereal and i was told to stop and he's been off it for 2 weeks and still no change. if u ever do find out what it is, I'd be glad to know : )

My oldest son had a problem with long term diarrhea when he was around 9 months old or so. His was persistent and had a very malodorous smell to it...almost sour like. They checked for Rotavirus which was negative. The bm would be so potent that it would literally take the hide off of his behind almost as soon as he pa__sed it. In his case it turned out to be multiple food allergies. They said his tummy was not digesting the food well and the acids in his stomach were pa__sing through with the bm's which were what was making him so raw. These were allergies that suddenly developed even though he'd previously eaten the foods with no problems. We had to go back to square one and start over. I'd do as Kara suggested and take out the solids and allow some time for the digestive system to get back in ordere....if the diarrhea clears you'll know it was a food thing. Then you'll just need to reintroduce everything again and watch for the diarrhea to reoccur.

apr, cornstarch is excellent for diaper rash. Use lots at each diaper change....it doesn't cost much and makes a huge difference in a small time frame.

My ds had food allergies that reacted the same way- It was like I was writing Rabbits post. I have narrowed down the "bad" foods and ds 100% better. For my ds with his milk allergy/ intolrance litterallt overnight wen we stopped milk it went away. Good luck. Oh any food sallergies in you or your dh? My dh has some and ds has a few dh has.
