Hello. I have a four month old preemie (born 8 weeks early). Just wanted to see if there were any other preemie moms on this forum.

Hey, I have a 2 1/2 year old son who was born 6 weeks early. I went into pre-term labor with my daughter at 27 weeks, the doctors stopped the labor and put me on pills and bedrest up until she was born, she was three weeks early which wasn't as bad.

I was due on November 19 but my water broke on September 24. My son was born four days later and after a few days, he was diagnosed with e coli meningitis. He was in the NICU for six weeks. We were home for a couple of weeks until we were in the hospital again because of his hydrocephalus. A shunt was placed and after two weeks of being at home, he had an allergic reaction and we were back in the hospital. After a two week stay and a new shunt was placed, we were home just in time for Christmas. He is doing great and developing well considering everything he has gone through. Monica -- how much does your son weigh? Is he delayed at all development-wise?

Jackson weighed 12 pounds 8 ounces at his four month check up. He's not quite reaching for toys yet but he recently started laughing out loud and his babbling is getting more consistent. An occupational therapist comes to the house every other week to work on his motor skills. He also gets the RSV shot once a month. Your LO is so much bigger than mine! Jackson is in the lower 3% weight category -- he's tiny but doctor said he's consistently gaining weight so I guess that's good. Do you stay home or work?

my ds was born 3 weeks 1 day early, so he was that much early. like monica, i had preclampsia..the day i delivered, my bp was 211/112! however, he had some slight pneumonia in his right lung, so spent 10 days in the NICU....jacksonsmommy,where was your ds at? a baby who was in nicu while my ds was had been born almost a month earlier ( my ds was born oct. 24) and had been diagnosed with e-coli meningitis and had to have a shunt put in his head.

Mosley -- we were at Baptist NICU in Oklahoma City. How's your LO? Sleeping through the night?

oh nevermind. we were in NC. your story just sounded so familiar i wanted to make sure it wasnt the same little boy where ds was..i never found out how he ended up doing. my LO is good. he's sleeping through night for the most part, although occasionally waking up around 2 am..like last night. he's ahead in most developemental areas. he's not rolling from his back to stomach yet, but the dr. said not to worry. i asked if i needed to base him on a corrected age, but the dr. said no, but not to be to concerned if he's late in alot of areas, but for the most part, he's ahead. he's about 18 lbs now. he'll be 4 months on saturday. he was 7.9 at birth! hows yours doing?

Jackson's doing very well. He can roll over from his tummy onto his back. He sleeps from about 8 pm to 7 am, waking up once or twice to eat. Have you started on cereal yet?

cayden can go from tummy to back but bot the other way around..he's so strong tho and can already stand holding on to just my fingers. they gave me steroid shots to boost his lungs, and i asked if it would effect his size or anything, and they told me no, but i thik they are full of it..lol.. he's been on cereal for awhile..he was eating 50-60 ounces of formula and still not being satisfied. he just recently started peas..my mom accidentally gave them to him, but his dr. said its ok since he was gonna start him on them at 4 months anyways. is your lo on cereal?

jacksonsmommy - February 20

I just started him on it this week. Doc wants to wait until he's 15 pounds so we really just "practice" once a day. Is Cayden your first?

Max was a 34wk'r. He's 7 months now. he is in the 10 percentile for wieght but the 50% for length. He has been a little delayed on gross and fine motor skills, but he is catching up. We had him evaluated for early intervention therapy and he just missed qualifying. But they spent about 45 minutes with us showing us all sorts of excersises to do with him to help him catch up. I'm glad we looked into it.

jacksonsmommy - February 20

Hi Kara. How old was your LO when you started him on cereal?

mosley12 - February 20

yep he's our first. he's a big boy. he's about 75% for weight ad 70% for height. drs. said if i would have went to term, he easily would be been a 9-10 pounder

I tried to start cereal at 4 months but his tummy was not ready. He cried all night and had gas pains. We switched to oatmeal and had the same results. We stopped and waited until 5 months and had the same issues. At 6 months his tummy was ready, but he didn't like the taste so our ped said to just quit trying the cereal all together and move onto veggies and fruits. Max loves them. I'm making my own at home. His new favorite is avacados. We will be introducing white potatoes and yogurt soon. We will probably start some meat/potato combinations at about 8.5 months.

Hello! My ds was born 3 weeks early, so technically he was full-term, but he had premature development. He weighed 6lbs 3oz, so he was good sized, but he had Respiratory Distress Syndrome, bad jaundice, and wouldn't eat. He was kept in the NICU for 7 days. He is now 8 months old and weighs 15lbs 7oz. He has reached all his milestones at the right time (early if you want to account for his corrected age)... except eating. He has issues with food and eating that possibly stems from being tube fed for that first week. He just started crawling a few weeks ago, got his first tooth, and he is finally starting to eat food (with the help of the hospital feeding disorders clinic).

Sorry my son wasn't premature, but his name is Jackson! We call him Jack though. Just wanted to say hi to another jackson's mommy! :) Good luck with yours!
