Hi ladies. I have a question for you about Maternity Leave benefits.....do we recieve it for one FULL year? Like, my benefits began April 9th, 2006.....will they end April 9th 2007?

From my understanding, you get 50 weeks of benefits. So your benefits will probably end a couple of weeks before April 9th. They have a pretty good website (sorry, I'm not sure what it is - you could do a search for Government of Canada EI maternity benefits). My benefits end this week :( We sure have enjoyed having the extra money, but now it is going to come to an end.

I had to wait the two week waiting period at the beginning, so if we get 50 weeks of benefits it will be a whole year.......do you know what i mean?

If you have required enough working hrs to take mat leave. It is different with every province on the amount of hrs needed. You get 15 weeks recovery time for having a baby and 35 weeks maturnity leave to bond with the baby. In total 50 weeks. If you are a SAHM then your dh can go on Paturnity leave for 35 weeks instead.

the website for that EI info is servicecanada.gc.ca, and for ontario, I had to have 600 hours before I could get the 50 weeks. I wish I could stay home. I am loving my time with my son and getting my house in order too. :(

yup, if you have your 600 hours worked/paid, then you get 15 weeks mat and 35 parental, plus the 2 wk wait. Last time I was on leave, my last EI cheque was only 1/2 and I went back to work a full 2 weeks before being paid again.
