Raw Skin Near The Butt

My boy is 9 months old and has normally very very good skin. We've for example never had to deal with diper rash. This morning I was cleaning his butt after his morning pooo (yuck!!) and saw that there were two open cuts going from his butt to his p__s. It wasnt bleeding but you could see that it was raw skin/meat there. Any idea what this is about? Should I be putting cream on it?

Oooh...the poor fella. When my lo's had a rawish looking rash, I would apply Lansinoh cream/gel to the area. It is normally recommeneded for b___stfeeding moms (cracked nipples) but it works wonders on bum rashes too. Clears it right up and it is so gentle.

I didn't know you could use Lansinoh for diaper rash. Thanks-I have almost a whole tube because I changed my mind about b___stfeeding. I was wondering what I could use that for.

It may be chapped/cracked skin. My boys have had that occa__sionally, too. Lansinoh sounds like a good idea.

My ds had the cuts. To me it didn't seem like a diaper rash really. Diaper rash is bumpy and red. I was using the Huggies wipes with perfume (the Shea b___ter kind) for a while because I liked the scent, but I switched to Huggies Extra Sensitive or Pampers Extra Sensitive with no perfume and I started to wipe more gently. I was being too thorough in wiping and eased up a bit. Then the cuts went away and never came back. For a few days I used a bit of vaseline on them too so they wouldn't get infected.
