Schedule To Get Some Sleep

MY 6 week old likes to go to sleep at about 8:00 p.m and wake up at about midnight and stay up for 2 hours or more then. Well I can not fall asleep at 8:00. I have things to get done now that she is sleeping. If I don't let her fall asleep at about 8:00 she is a total monster. She cries and gets all worked up. She is up alot during the day and she takes her best nap at about 1:30 till about 5:00 in the afternoon so naturally she is tired about 8:00 or so. It is just hard to stay up and then get ready to go to sleep at about 10 or 11 and then she wakes up and I am ready for bed. Anyone have any advice on how to get her to stay awake a little longer unitl about 10 or so.

Maybe a shorter nap from 1:30 to 3:30 then maybe she will be more tired around 8 and sleep longer. I found with both my kids that once I thought I had their schedule figured out, it would change. So you might have to be flexible. Another idea: try getting up to feed her BEFORE she wakes up. They call it a "dream feed" and maybe then she wouldn't even wake up all the way. She's so little, she's probably not ready for a schedule yet. Enjoy this time with her.

I agree with Maybe, my 10 week old, if I get to her BEFORE she really wakes up, will take her night feeding and immediately drift back off. If I'm slow about it - trying to get just a few more minutes of sleep - she works up and is wide awake for a couple hours. As far as scheduling, she just isn't old enough yet, her body needs that sleep to grow and fighting her on it is a losing battle for both of you... but it will even out soon so hang in there! :)
