Self Soothing

My son is 8 weeks old and I am working very hard to get him used to his bassinet. I made the mistake of letting him sleep with me for the last 8 weeks and now teaching him to sleep on his own has been miserable. So he is learning to fall asleep on his own ( very slowly ). But he will only be asleep for about 10 minutes when he will wake up and scream, therefore waking himself up totally. If I catch it right away I can put his pacifier back in his mouth and he will fall back to sleep, but this is really difficult at night. Also, I don't want him to be dependant on the pacifier to fall or stay asleep, because as you all know that it falls out 24/7. I am trying to figure out how to get him to self soothe himself back to sleep. Any help would be appreciated.

What has worked for me in the past, is to put baby in the crib as much as possible. Even if they wake up shortly after for the first few times, they will get used to it. I would put my lo to sleep with me holding her or in my bed and then I would transfer her to crib. If she woke up, I would put her back to sleep and do it again. She sleeps in her crib all night now, and for her naps too! Hope that might help you too.
