my 6 1/2 month old dd is starting with separation anxiety i think- what do you do at night? she is not wanting to be put in her crib until she is asleep and cries when she sees me leaving her room! not sure if this is separation anxiety but my lo started this about a week ago and she often cries when i leave the room during the day, as well. my question is, what do most of you do at night, let them cry it out or go in and soothe them back to sleep? she woke up at 2am last night and was wide awake and i rocked her for while, didnt give her a bottle, then she woke up when i was walking out and she started crying all over again....also, how long does this phase last? i'm hoping its a phase....lol..thanks!

Our 10-mo just started with this about a week ago. Whenever she sees Daddy leave the house for work in the morning, or when we try to put her down for the night she goes ballistic. We find that it helps to have lots of toys around to distract her.

I don't have a problem with it at night but during the day. My ds is 7.5 months old, and has had SA for about 1-1.5 months now. I've read that it peaks at 6-7 months & then again at 9-10 months. It can last weeks or months or even right through from 6-10 months. My ds cries when ever he's left alone even if he can still see me. He won't play with his toys unless I'm playing with him. I have been leaving him to play more and more every day, and when I leave I say "Mommy, will be right back" Usually he cries or moans until I get back, and sometimes (but rarely) he is able to go 10 mins playing by himself. I play peek-a-boo a lot so that he learns that leaving doesn't mean abandonment. I guess its one of things we have to ride out...
