Sophia Is So Sick

Sophia's had a cough for about two weeks. The doctor said I needed to get a humidifier for it, so I did. Then, on Friday night she threw up. I watched her for a few hours and it didn't happen again, so I put her down for the night. Saturday she threw up after every bottle. I called the doctor and he said to give her pedialite and lactose-free formula. She couldn't keep the pedialite down, so I called the nurseline. The nurse said to give her a teaspoon of pedialite every ten minutes for four hours, then after that stayed down she could have an ounce or two at a time, then after 8 hours we could start formula again...much better instructions than the doctor gave us. So I did what she said, and Sophia kept it down, and it all started running right out the other end. Then Sunday she was throwing up so much that my husband freaked out and said we had to take her to the ER. She has an ear infection and bronchiolitis (did I spell it right, dh took the papers from the hospital to prove to his job that he was there). Today she can't keep anything down, even the antibiotics. She's throwing up and has the runs, sometimes at the same time. I think I'll probably take her to the doc tomorrow...the only reason we went to the ER is that the doc wasn't going to be in his office today, and I didn't think we could wait till tues....I'm so worn out, and I wish I could do something more for her. They told me I can't give her any decongestants or antihistamines, just saline drops and the nasal aspirator. I think the drainage in her throat makes her cough, which makes her throw up. I think the pedialite is causing the diarrea...she doesn't look like the michelin baby anymore, she's getting so scrawny.

Oh no! Poor little thing. I just hate it when my kids are sick. I wish I had some advice but I will say a prayer that your little angel gets well soon. When my older son got a stomach bug for the first time I though I was supposed to give pedialyte only and no forumla. My poor little guys was starving before I realized I was doing it wrong. I felt sooooo bad! Take care of yourself.

Nadya gags and throws up when she has a cold, due to the mucous running down her throat, but what you're going through sounds awful! I wish I could offer good advice. Poor Sophia! Really hope she starts getting better soon!

Oh poor baby! I know how you feel. Danny is getting over a cold and it was really tough on us. Danny had a lot of drainage in his throat that made him cough as well. I used the nasal aspirator and succtioned the stuff right out of his throat. I was watching A Baby Story and saw them use the aspirator when the baby was just born to clear their throat. I thought, hell I mind as well give it a try. It worked wonders. I also gave him some water to loosen up the mucus. I hope that helps some. Good luck and keep us posted.

She really is doing better...we just had a normal diaper. I never thought I'd be happy to see a poopy diaper...but I am glad she's getting better.
