Teething I Don T Think So

I worked at a daycare years ago and remember calling a mother to come and pick up her 6 month old because she has a temperature of 104. I was very worried about her. She was pale and lethargic. When her mom picked her up she actually said, "Oh, she is teething. I am sure she is fine." Are you freaking kidding me? You don't get a temp like that from teething! I just thought of it because it seems as though teething gets the blame for lots of stuff that doesn't make sense. I have heard of loose stools because of the increased saliva, fussiness, maybe even a low fever. I have two boys and it seems like every time they were or are sick as babies somebody would say that they were teething no matter what the problem was. It is not likely when the kid is really sick. My baby has bronchitis and an older relative tried to tell me he was teething.

That is the reason peds won't ever say that teething causes fevers, loose stools, ect because then everyone over looks actual illnesses. If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say ds is teething I could go back to being a sahm. I remember when ds was about 2-3 months he was fussing at the grocery store and some lady says oh look hes teething I said oh no not yet and she disagreed with me well he didn't get his first tooth until 6 months so no he wasn't teething. Then he when he founf his hands they were always in his mouth so everyone would say look hes teething no he just founf them its new hes exploring just like when he found his toes. Sorry could go on forever big pet peeve of mine- can you tell hehe

I know what you mean. My babies could stub their toes and teething was to blame- according to my in-laws ;-)
