Teething Nightmare Will He Shrivel Into A Prune

My almost 11 month old ds has been teething for some time and has 3 teeth on the bottom and is currently getting his 2 top ones in the front. His gums are extremely swollen and my big question is when do I need to start worrying about dehydration from him not taking his bottle or letting me give him solids?? I don't want him to shrivel into a prune from lack of fluids. He goes through these spells of perhaps a day...sometimes 2...where he just refuses to take his bottle and starts screaming when he see's it...same with his binky and he also wont let me near him with a spoon!! I am so concerned that he will get dehydrated. I went as far as to give him water through a dropper the other day until he would no longer allow it. I had managed to get approx 4 oz in. His teething has been such a nightmare with these 2 top teeth!! We have given him baby motrin and alternate with baby tylenol, cold teethers, cold washcloth, orajel...the whole bit. It just seems to be something that will have to pass, but until then...are there any tricks to get fluids in him? And how long until I need to worry?? Has anyone else gone through this with their lo's???

hey there! I know it's tough! How many oz is Layne getting in 24hrs? As long as he is getting approx 24oz he should be a-ok. Jacob has 10 teeth and it's been a rollercoaster... we did all the tricks you are trying.. we tried several different teethers. One thing that did help was the gerber biter biscuits -- he seemed to be able to get the biscuit right to the spot that was troubling him.

Hey there! Wow, 10 teeth!!!! So, I imagine you are nearing the molar stage now :-) I would say that when this is happening he probably gets around 20-24 oz in a 24 hr period! So, that makes me feel better. Ty. Do they sell the Gerber biter biscuits at most places? I will check walmart or target for them. Ty for the tip :-)

Yes, the molars have arrived! The gerber biscuits are just about everywhere... keep a good eye on Layne when he eats them just incase a chuck breaks off.. .Jacob has been on them for about 2 months.. he is now able to handle it when a piece comes off! Let me know how it goes.. you can post on my piczo if you what to! Look forward to hearing back!

My LO only has 2 teeth, I expect future ones will be worse. But for the couple days he refused his bottle, I just gave him a regular cup. I held it, obviously. I have never tried this but 3-4 people have reccommended teething pellets (or something like that to me). I saw them at CVS and WalMart, they look like little pouches. They are $8 but my friend says they are worth hundreds.

Try giving him a sippy cup with water or milk in it. And maybe give him some finger foods that he can pick up himself. My lo' loves eating toast latley, but she too, hasn't been too interested in her bottles and letting me feed her. A couple days of cookies and toast with a sippy cup of milk isn't going to hurt him.
