To Fellow Bottle Feeding Mommies

At about a month old, how much was your infant taking on average? My little girl seems satisfied with about four ounces if even that every three hours or so. She is almost three weeks old. I am just a bit curious, my mother informed me, all of me and my siblings were taking more than four ounces after two weeks. Is it normal for a little one to eat so little? I mean I am not too concerned, she has a good amount of wet and poopy diapers. I just wanted to know. Mostly curiosity.

Hi HeavenisMine My little guys are 3 weeks old today and they take between 2-4 oz. about every 3 hours. I read up on it and they say for the first month they should have 2-4 oz. about 6-8 times a day. Think she is eating just right. Dh was worried I was overfeeding them. He said they are like goldfish and just keep eating, lol. So I read up just to make sure and they are eating right on track. after 1 month they should be eating a little more. The tip was if they keep finishing their bottle its time to add more. Hope you and your little girl are doing well. ttyl.

My ds is 3.5 weeks and he eats around 4oz every 3-4 hours. The last 2 days he has eaten every 2 hours but then 3 weeks is listed as a grow spurt so I think that as long as your dd is full and satisfied and gainging properly I wouldn't worry. This is my 3rd and all 3 boys have eaten different amounts.

That is a lot to drink for a 3 week old. That's how much my DD is drinking and she is 3.5 months old. My best friend is a dr. and she said that it's better to give smaller amounts but more frequently. When my DD was 3 wks old she was drinking about 2-3 oz every 3 hrs. She is a big baby too so you would think she would drink more.

As you know, I b___stfeed but I also pump and give it to her by bottle. Candle is 5.4wks old and from a bottle she drinks 2-3 oz every 3hrs or so.

I did a combo of BF and FF until my lo was 6wks old. He would take 2.5-3oz and then about 10-15 mins on the b___b at every feeding. I fed on demand. By 6wks when I went to just formula, and a routine, he was taking 3-4oz every 3 hrs. By 4 months he was drinking every 4hrs and 4-5oz.

That seems about right. I wouldnt let her go over 4 hrs though. At that age frequent feedings is best. My son is 4.5 months and drinks 6 oz every 3 hrs

My dd is 3.5 months old and she drinks about 4 oz. every 3 hours and sleeps a good 12 hours straight at night. I think your lo is doing well. From my experience they eat when they need to, and if your dd is content she's doing just fine.
