Jaime is getting his first set of vaccines today and I heard that some of you have given tylenol for babies beforehand. Can you share what you did? I do not want my little peanut to suffer, I am already hating today's appointment.

I gave Brittany tylenol about 20 min before her shots ( I took it to the dr with me because I want to check with him first), and I gave her some more every 4 hours until the next morning. She did very well, no fever and just a little soreness when I would move her legs to change her diaper. I think it helped and I am planning on doing the same thing next week for her second set of shots.

I always give Lucas some before his appts. My docs even recommend it! Hope he does well!

Oh, I am so dreading this. We're going next Thursday and I am so anxious about it. How much Tylenol do you give them b/c the bottle states to ask the doctor for proper dosage. I am bf and heard that if you nurse them during and/or after the shots, it calms them down and relieves their pain. Anyone know anything about that?

Christy ...I gave Jesse a bottle right after the shots,it did distract him from the pain of the shots.

Maybe they just need to suck on something to soothe themselves. I think I think I may give him the Tylenol before we go for good measure. How did you guys figure out dosage? Did you just call the doctor?

My doc gave me a little laminated sheet with weights and dosages on it for both tylenol and motrin at my 1st visit. I find it very helpful since Lucas gains so much weight so fast!

The nurse told me at the 2 months shots to give him the lowest dosage which I believe is 0.4,it depends on how heavy your baby is.Christy, the sucking is comforting and after shots they need that!!!

i asked about this before isabelle got her 2 month shots and i just ended up not giving her any tylenol before cuz i wasn't sure if my doc would approve, though in retrospect i'm sure it would've been fine. they gave isabelle the shots really quickly and she screamed her head off, but she quieted down pretty quickly once i held her. and they approved giving her the 0.4-0.6 of tylenol every 4 hours after the shots if she had a reaction to them. i gave her some tylenol a few times, but she didn't seem to have any reaction to the shots at all so i stopped giving it to her.

The nurse in my doc's office gave my son some right before the shot, but the way he screamed I don't know if it helped or not! I do think it helped him not get a fever, because I didn't give him any before his four month shots and he had a low grade fever that day and the next.
