Very Hot Weather Very Sleepy Baby

It has been really hot here and my baby has been sleeping a lot-much more than usual which is nice because it is too hot to carry her around. But last night she slept through the night for the first time (from 10:30-6:00am) and that is so not like her! And she has been pretty much napping all day. Could it be the heat and should I be concerned or take any extra precaustions in this kind of weather?

I would definitely make sure that she is drinking good as it is easy for them to get dehydrated when they are so little. Make sure she is having plenty of wet diapers...if she seems like she's not peeing good I would be concerned. Wake her up to nurse if you feel you need to...you definitely don't want to risk dehydration in a baby that young. The heat can make them tired and sleep more though, so if she is wetting good and not feverish or anything I wouldn't be overly concerned.

oh, and try to keep her cool as the sweating plays a role in dehydration.

mmmmm same here! My son saw the pediatrician today and she only said to continue feeding on demand to prevent dehydration and bathe him often to regulate his temperature and prevent sweat-rash.

ry, glad you asked this question. Sarah has been doing the same thing but she's almost 6 months so I figured growth spurt but I will watch her wet diapers even closer now. Anyone know how often she should be wet?

If your baby goes 6 hours without a wet diaper it may be a sign the baby is becoming or is dehydrated. Also, if you change your baby's diaper and it is wet, but a very dark yellow, it is an indicator that baby may be getting dehydrated. Also, diapers that are wet, but with very small amounts (if that is unusual for that baby...some don't pee alot anyway).
