Weening From Swaddling

To those of you who have weened from swadding, any suggestions to make it easier? Max is 6 months old and has been great sleeper ever since The Happiest Baby On the Block. He slept 7 hours at 7wks, 10 hours at 10wks and 12 hours ever since 12wks. Now he is too long for the first U in DUDU and comes undone a couple of times a night and fusses. My hubby has been gone the last three Saturday night for sleep studies so I have let Max sleep with me. I have folded the comforter way back, removed the pillows, and Max will roll to his side grab two handfuls of my sheet, clasps his hands together and suck on the sheet while sleeping (400 thread count egyptian cotton sheets - kid's got good taste). So I know he is capable of sleeping without being swaddled, but it just doesn't work in his crib. He just cries and cries for hours - so CIO just won't work. Any suggestions?

Give him a lovey or a thin blanket to comfort him, like he is doing in your bed. They have the real thin knit baby blanket with the tiny holes in then. That is all I will give Ashtyn to sleep with. She is a year and I am still scared of SIDS!
