What Does Your Older Baby Do All Day

I have to get some work done and I also have housework to do and I always feel guilty letting dd just play by herself or letting her watch too much tv. How much time do you guys actually spend sitting and interacting with your older babies everyday? I feel like I am neglecting her sometimes!

I also kind of feel like I dont have enough new toys for her, like she is sick of all of hers (but she has a lot!) Should I get her something new every so often?

My DS is in daycare but on weekends and days off I know what you mean.It is ok to let them play by themselves for periods of time each day, it fosters independence.Of course you don't want to sit them by the TV for hours but IMHO, television is part of modern life and can be used as a form of entertainment if used responsibly, so you can do the dishes or a load of laundry. My 13 month old son likes a DVD of The Laurie Berkner Band so much it almost scares me.He sometimes just sits transfixed for his favorite songs.I use it when I need it and he enjoys himself. It's totally age appropriate though and just 3 musicians and some preschooler singing fun songs. He also watches Thomas the Tank DVDs.Don't feel guilty, you are home with your child and she knows you are there. I know my son enjoys his time at daycare, I just dropped him off after a week of having a cold and he didn't look back and was playing with his buddies. But I still feel guilt myself for not being a SAHM. But I just can't. We all do what we can.I make time each evening and incorporate playing into as much of the evening as I can. Also, instead of new toys, (I know it's fun watching them with a new one, though)try keeping a few aside and rotating them. Make sure to keep a favorite in each batch you have put up so it's a pleasant surprise when she gets the new batch.I hope this helps.

oh the joys of the 21st century mom!!! I hear you Ry. I sometimes feel so guilty for not being able to do one on one with AJ whenever we are home but letting them play alone for periods is perfectly alright. AJ will let me put him in his playpen with toys so I can get some things done - as long as his playpen is in sight of me - if not then it isn't pretty. LOL He is a fan of baby einstein but doesn't really watch alot of TV. As far as toys I would just rotate the ones she has and don't worry about new ones for now . I'm certain your not anywhere near neglecting her. I think your a great mom!!!
