When Did Your Baby Start Sleeping Through Night

I know every baby is different, but I was hoping some of you would share your experiences. Does it just start happening all of the sudden? Or Is it more random? I have a 3 month old, and he usually goes to bed around 9:00 and wakes up at 4:00am for a bottle then goes back to sleep until 6 or 7, but sometimes he sleeps straight until 6:00am (yay!) He is very unpredictable and I'm trying to figure out if it's something I'm doing differently during the day, like nap time or feedings. Anyway, please share your stories. I would appreciate it!

My DS will be 4 months on the 13th. Starting at 8 weeks old, he was sleeping through the night (from about 11pm until anywhere from 5-7am. I am sure this happened because I used to put him down at 8:30 or so and he would wake at around 2 or 3. So even then, he was going great stretches of times... but the wrong times! When I changed his last bottle to later, he slept better hours (for us). Now, with the way he's eating (5 times a day, 5.5 ounces each time), he's getting his last bottle around 9pm, which means he's in his crib by 10. He sleeps until at least 5am, sometimes a bit longer. As for naps, he doesn't have a set schedule with that either. He definitely naps in the AM, within 2 hours of having his first bottle. That nap is usually about an hour Then he'll take cat naps (maybe 3) throughout the day (about 20-40 minutes each). His only other long nap is actually at night, usually before his last bottle. He sleeps through his last bottle (but finishes it) then is out for the night. Of course, this is not an exact science. Take last night, for instance. The way his "schedule" was, he ate at 8pm and was in his crib by 9. He woke up at 12:15 and wouldn't go back to sleep until 2am. He then slept until 4:30, so I fed him at 4:45, then he went back to sleep for another 2 hours. I know I just rambled, but I hope that helps you!!

my ds started at 6 months exactually!!???? he was a big baby and always ate lots, my ped suggested to start cereal at 4 months and at his 6 month appt ( on his b-day) she said we weren't feeding him enough solids and that is why he was still waking up, cause he was actually really hungry. So that day i increased all his cereal and that was the first night he slept through. Since then he has been a pretty good sleeper except when his teeth bug him. SO all in all i had a very hungry baby, once i realized that, all is better. he is 11 monts now.

My ds was 11wks old when he started sleeping 8hrs straight. This was after waking up 3x a night. I started giving him his soother instead of a bottle at his 5am wake-up and then a week later he dropped his 2am wake-up by himself. The reason I stopped the 5am bottle was because he was only drinking 3oz at the most. He was feeding out of habit and not hunger. I still fed him a dream feed at 11pm. Then I dropped the 11pm feed when my ds was 6 months old. He has slept 12hrs straight ever since (btw he is 7.5 months old). He was born at 7lbs, was 14lbs by 3 months & 18lbs by 6 months. I started cereal at 4.5 months old.

11 weeks he started sleeping 8-10 hours at night. My older son was 16 weeks when he started that.

6 weeks-8 hours straight.....16 weeks-3 hours straight!!! Ha, I got teased thinking I had an easy baby!!!! But, like DDT said, she was waking from habit at that point...so by 6 or 6.5 months we were back on track sleeping at least 10 hours straight..at 8 months, now, she is sleeping 12 hours straight...for us at the 6 week mark, it just came on gradually over a couple weeks..she started going 5 hours without a feeding, then 6, then 8! It was great while it lasted!!!

Just so you know, sleeping through the night is 5 hours. Anything after that is just really lucky!!

My lo started sleeping 5-6hrs at 6-8wks. Then at 11 wks started sleeping 8-6am. But, just recently he has been waking alot again. Don't know if its teething, a cold, or growth spurt. For us the sleeping just happened overnite (out of nowhere). But, we also started to get regular naps in too.

My dd is 8 weeks old, and last night was the third night in a row that she went to bed between 9 and 10 and slept until about 6. Then she ate and went back to sleep until about 9:30. YAY! :)
