When To Face Front

My son was 19.6 lbs a few weeks ago. When can I switch his car seat to front facing?

It doesn't matter about the weight. My son is 22 pounds and the Ped said he needs to face the rear until he is 1. I was told their bones are not strong enough to take the impact if they are facing front. Sorry but once they are over 20 pounds you still need to wait until they are 1 year.

Actually it is 20 pounds AND a year old. It says so on the car seat and it every baby book I ever read.

Yeah, they are supposed to be both. My youngest actually hit 20 lbs at 7 months, but we had to wait. But, I'd be lying if I said I waited until a year. My younger two went forward facing at about 10 1/2 months because their legs were too long to comfortably sit rear-facing. They were both 20 lbs, though.

It is what JB and SAHMOF3 said. 20 pounds AND 1 year old.

how about the length of the baby? doesn't that come into the picture? I have to dig up my car seat manual to check the weight/height requirement. hmm.. I think my dd is going to be tall, she was 28" at her 6 month checkup but only weighed a little over 16lbs. So will she hit the height requirement before the weight?
