Wipes Vs Cotton Wool

Whilst I was in hospital just after giving birth to my DS, the midwives advised to use cotton wool and luke warm water to clean his bottom. At home I do this but when i'm out and about I have started using baby wipes. They are fragrance free and suitable for newborn babies (my DS is 16 days old),but i was wondering if this is ok and you other mums are using them aswell?

I use them while on outings because of the convenience...travelling with a baby is hard enough without trying to find a place to wet a cloth and then store it, etc.

Since I use cloth diapers, it's defeats the purpose to use disposable wipes. So I carry wet washcloths in the diaper bag - just keep 'em in a ziplock bag.

i use disposable wipes. As if i didnt have enough laundry to do i couldent imagein all these wet wash cloths laying around the house. The ones i use are fragrance free and alcohol free as well.

I make my own wipes! I cut a paper towel roll in half and I boil 2 cups of water and 1 tblsp of baby oil and 1 tblsp of baby shampoo. I poor the concoction over the half of paper towel roll, I put them in a container and pull "wipes" from the center. I love useing these becuase store bought wipes are never wet enough for my liking! I also find its cheaper and for messy diapers I only use one paper towel instead of a few wipes.

Heather F...that sounds like a great idea. I'm gonna have to try that. It certainly sounds cheaper than store bought wipes.

Rabbits - I love them but I have found you have to use paper towels that arent on the cheaper side beacuase if they are a cheap brand they fall apart when you pull them out of the container, even so they are cheaper then regular wipes.
