Water is wonderful for labor and delivery. When you are having contractions and they become very strong, there is nothing like sinking into a large tub or pool of very warm water. It helps take the pressure off, helps control pain from contractions and helps you to relax. Relaxing is the most beneficial thing you can do when in labor because when you are relaxed your body is able to do what it is supposed to do more efficiently. I did labor in water with my 3rd and actually gave birth to him on "dry land", because the hospital I was at did not "allow" water births. Water is wonderful!

This is my first pregnancy, and I am having a normal bith because they don't have any water-birth facilities where I live... but I've heard water-birth is WONDERFUL. I would like to try it, but unless I plan on moving in the next week, I don't see that happening... hahah

I gave birth to my first 2 children in the water. I am now 37 weeks pregnant with my 3rd. The hospital no longer allows you to give birth in the water, so I'm a little nervous about this one. I don't have anything to compare it too, but I loved giving birth in the water. I labored in it for about 2 hours before delivery with both of them. It's really relaxing and even though the pain's still there, I think just swishing around in the water helps to soften the b__w. Unfortunately, my hospital was the only one in the area that did the water births, I'm hoping they will continue them in the future if I have more kids. I'd also like to add that neither of my kids needed suctions from their mouth or nose which I think was due to their birth in the water. Their lungs were as clear as could be. I really think it's more natural. If you have the opportunity, I say go for it!!
