2nd Trimester Coughing Weak Cervix

I'm 15/16 weeks and I've had a bad cough for the past week. I'm at a higher risk for incompetent cervix because I had a LEEP three years ago, so my doctor is looking at my cervix every couple weeks - so far, no problems. I called the nurse on Friday to ask about the cough, and she said that a persistant cough can cause the cervix to weaken further. So now I'm all flipped out that my coughing is going to cause my cervix to open, and I don't go the doctor for another 1.5 weeks. Anyone heard of this happening? Are there other bad things that can happen with coughing? Thanks!

Sara, I'm at 27 weeks and I was a little worried that my cold/cough was going to send me into premature labor. Sometimes the cough was so bad that i swore I felt the baby shifting. I asked my nurse about this and she said she'd never heard of coughing causing anything like that to happen. As long as you're getting monitored, i think you'll be fine. The cervix is designed to take a lot. In the meantime, can you take anything to supress your cough? My doctor said that robitussin was ok and if you don't want to do medication, you could do some honey and lemon. Sleep with a humidifier and that helps me a lot. Hugs :)

if your at risk for an incomplete cervix than the smart thing to do would be get a st_tch just in case, if they can even do that. I would talk to your OBGYN about it because that st_tch will keep your cervix shut until its time. take care :)
