Cervical Length Possible Concern

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second baby (:girl:). I had complications with my first pregnancy and my sone was born at 32 weeks after bleeding episodes and stopped labor earlier. At week 26 I was 80% effaced and 4 cm dilated by week 31. I just had my ultrasound and when the technician checked the cervical length it was 3 cm. I don't go to see my doctor for another 3 weeks. I found some information online and it says 2.5 cm is when they will really get concerned. But I also found that a normal cervix would be 4.2 to 5.4 cm at 18 weeks. I shouldn't be down to 3 cm until 32 weeks. Do I need to worry? I know it is good that I am not 2.5 cm, but I can't help but worry after my last pregnancy.

Giancola- congrats on your little girl! I know typically they can do a cerclage (sp?) a st_tch to keep your cervix closed but I thought that was done in the first trimester (sometimes bedrest as well). If I were you I would call your doctor rather than waiting the 3 weeks to see what they recommend. Personally I would go crazy worrying about it for 3 weeks. I'm sure your doctor will be watching you very closely. Good luck and I'm sure your little one will be just fine.

wow!! i was just in the doctor on thursday because of sevre pressure in my lower abdomin. after the ultrasound(v____al and regular) The Dr said that my cervix is four cm. He said they wouldn't worry about it until 2.5, because thats when the amniotic fluid can start to leak. I've been told i can't do a lot of walking anymore.. so wal-mart is totally out of the question. I can't lift more then 5 lbs, and have to limit all activity and movements to what only really needed. I really have to say, after one day of that i'm bored as all get out. He also alluded to the fact that in few weeks i'll be put on bed rest. I would think that most likely the dr will take into consideration what your other pregnancy was like, and you might end up on bedrest. Which i'm sure will be really hard with a little one running around. I'm also thinking that even though the appointment might not be for another three weeks, if you call and talk to him or his nurse, and let them know what's going on, they might have you go in earlier and check the cervix again, and especially for leaks, and for thinning out. One quick question. have you had any discharge? the clear kind? not that c___ppy thin white junk that keeps infection out of the v____a area or whatever it does. If you are i would most def call the dr asap. that could be amniotic fluid leaking. I'm sure you know that is not a good thing at 18 weeks. Le me know how things are going for you, if you want to talk off of here, my nic on yahoo is mybeeps Sarah
