ITP

During my first pregnancy I was diagnosed with ITP, which is a rare blood platelet disorder. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this and, if so, should I expect it during my second pregnancy?

I haven't had it myself, but my 6 year old son had it right at a year ago. The doctor explained to us that once you kick it, your chances of getting it back again are slim, unless you have chronic ITP. Most people have acute ITP which goes away after awhile. A doctor at the children's hospital told us that it's usually caused by a virus of some sort. If you're worried about it, I would ask your doctor and be extra cautious about washing hands and so forth. You can never be too safe! Good luck and I pray it doesn't return for you. It was terribly sad to see my son go through months of treatments, transfusions and blood draws, I don't wish that on anybody! Happy and healthy 9 months to you!
