Low Amniotic Fluid Amp 6 4 Mm Nuchal Fold Thickness

I am 30yo and my husband is 35yo. This is our first baby. Until 2 weeks ago (18 week of pregnancy) everything was normal. Then we found out on an ultrasound that my amniotic fluid was low, between 5 and 6, which I believe is considered low but still within the normal range. Then yesterday we had our structural ultrasound (at 20 weeks of pregnancy) and they did not find anything wrong except that the nuchal fold thickness was 6.4 mm which is above normal and might be an indicator of Down Syndrome. All the other measurements were within range and the screening blood test for genetic abnormalities came back negative. The doctor said that the only thing that could be done at this moment is an amniocentesis, but that has its risk since the fluid is already low. This test would give us two answers: 1 – if the baby has Down syndrome or not, but that really does not matter to us, we love her the way she is; and 2 - if there any other genetic abnormality that could be causing the lowering of the fluid. This is what worries us most, but still I do not believe that a diagnosis would help “to fix” this problem, right? Are there any other tests that could be done do find out why the fluid is low? Should we look for a second opinion?

It's been weeks since you posted your question and I saw that nobody responded. I have low fluid too (I am 18 weeks now) and I am going to the doctor today. I hope you and baby are well. Ana
