Pregnancy And HPV

So, I'm going a bit crazy here, and this is one of the only places I go to talk to people who understand. I'm now 16 weeks pregnant! (yay!!!) I'm so excited! A week before I found out I was pregnant I had my first normal papsmear in 2 years. All of the precancerous tissue had cleared up on it's own (hooray!) So, I was thinking this pregnancy will probably be a breeze...it's my first. Everything was fine up until a few days ago. *Okay, be prepared for TMI* My (downthere) was itching. It kept itching more and I thought perhaps laying out at the beach had irriated my skin or something. But, the next day still itching. So, I get out my handy-dandy hand-mirror and take a look. And to my surprise, I saw small white spots of skin tissue on the inside. :( So, I freaked, grabbed my woman's anatomy book and looked up HPV. I knew that HPV causes genital warts...but the kind that I had only caused the microscopic kind that would live on the cervix, so I had never seen them before. I come to find out that pregnancy can irritate and cause genital warts to form and grow. Ew. I feel so dirty!!! I think so far every day since I've read that I've taken 3 showers/day. I go to the Dr. on Friday (July 8th) but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not warts. I read that warts can cause labor to be more difficult because the va___al walls aren't as elastic. Also, the baby can get it, and warts can form in the baby's throat causing difficulty w/ breathing. Wow, needless to say I'm a little terrified. Has anybody else been through this or known somebody who has??? I don't know what to do!!! (and it still itches!!!) A friend of mine said it could be a yeast infection, but I really don't think so. :(

If you look down the page we were taking about this subject just recently. Either way the baby and you will be fine. Having this doesnt make you gross it makes you human. Many, many women go throught the same thing it is common for pregnant women because of the hormones. By the way how did the oppointment go????

Thanks HoneyBee...I didn't search hard enough the other day, now I see the thread you are talking about. That's good news to hear that there are so many others out there like me. I go to the doc this afternoon and am hoping everything is clear. Thanks again!!!

Kleem22: how did your appt go?? i am 35weeks pregnant and i have hpv. i didn't show any symptoms until i was about 25weeks or so. i don't know how long i have had them cause i didn't show symptoms until becoming pregnant. my doctor says i shouldn't worry because he's seen so many other cases where v____al delivery was fine. i can't help but feel dirty too, and ashamed that i have put my child at risk of contracting this virus while my husband shows no signs and i pray he never does. i don't want to have a c-section but i'm not sure if i should request it just to be safe for the delivery????? i would like to know what your doctor told you? hope to hear back.......

Hey MLF~My appointment is in 1 hour and I'll talk with the doc....I'll let you know what I learn. I think as far as v____al delivery goes...as long as the dr gives you the clear, you don't have to worry about doing a c-section. I hope everything works out perfectly for you...no worries...i have been hearing more positive things about this than negative. so, keep your chin up! :)

There a lot worse things that are out there when is virus. I consider myself very lucky. IF you are worried about giving it to your little one put it in perspective you have a better chance of having a child with downs then with rrp. Only 4.5 out of 100,00 get it and 1500 out of everyone in the us get it each year and that is including adults it is very very rare. I hope this helps

I am concerned too as I'm starting to think that I might request a c-section. Anything to lower my chances of pa__sing this on to my baby. How did the dr appt go? I go for mine today...I have so many questions....so very embarra__sed!!

I hope everything goes great, your doc may not give it to you because having hpv is not considered high risk. Also you have a better chance of something going wrong with the c-section then anything happening to your little one. Keep us posted on what happens

I have genital warts at present. And I know how they make you feel, I feel ashamed and disgusting. Before this came to light me and my husband were trying for a baby and now Im worried sick about pregnancy and warts. Everything you read tells you the worst case senario. You only hear the bad things which are usually very rare, which is what I keep telling myself.
