Blighted Ovum When Will The Bleeding Start

Hi, everyone. Last week at my 9 week appt, I found out that there was no baby - no heart beat, no sign of fetus. Previously, at my 6-week appt, I saw a sac and a very strong heart, so of course I was very optimistic. Also I had no signs of trouble. I had pregnancy symptoms and no bleeding or painful cramping. My symptoms have pretty much disappeared since last week and now I'm waiting to miscarry naturally. I was wondering how long it takes for the bleeding to start. I have had some minor pre-menstrual type cramping this week but still no spotting or bleeding. For those of you who miscarried naturally, when did your miscarriage actually start?

MINE NEVER STARTED...I HAD A DC BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE 3 WEEKS OF WAITING AND NOTHING HAPPENED...MY DOCTOR SAID IF I DON'T DO A DC I WAS GOING TO DIE!

Well, I didn't know I was going to miscarry until the miscarriage actually started, but looking back, my first sign was 1 1/2 weeks - 2 weeks before it started, which was some light brown spotting and an odd feeling, not like a pain or anything, but just, like an emotional feeling like... oh, a premonition! I just had this hunch that something was wrong. When I started to feel pain that was Friday Feb 9th and it felt like not so much painful but rather like, that icky feeling I always get just before my period comes. I was worried, but tried to relax and went to bed early. The next day, I felt crampy and that icky feeling too. The cramps I a__sumed were gas pains (I was in such denial!) and I went to sleep that evening for a nap. WHen I woke up that night at 1am I was having some light pink bleeding, heavier than spotting, but not a really heavy bleed either. I went to the ER, and had some red blood spotting, then the bleeding stopped, and I got hopeful that I was in the clear again, but as the hours pa__sed (I was there for 9 hours) and I got more info I knew it was doomed, because they told me it was only measuring 4-5 weeks and I should of been 7-8, with an absolute minimum of 6 if I miscounted somewhere. So, it was grim outlook then. As soon as I left, I started cramping quite a bit. After I got home, I went to sleep again, and then when I woke up I was bleeding very heavily, and cramping horribly, and by 11:30pm Sunday night, I had pa__sed the sac and a lot of large clots. Then just lots of blood, which has tapered off, but am still bleeding. I think in general with a natural m/c its around 2 weeks from time of when the baby stops developing. I think that could vary from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy though, I'm not really sure.

Whisper, you described my story (hell) to the exact. I lost my heart beat at 8-1/2 weeks (baby only measured 6+1 weeks) and two weeks later, exactly the spotting began, and then the contractions and then 13 hours of pa__sing clots and blood. My uterine lining went from 21 mm to 8 mm in 13 hours. I pa__sed the baby about 6 hours into all the contractions and clots, etc. And that was last Friday morning. I am still bleeding, off and on, now...nearly a week later. I think the HCG numbers went from 7,000 after I pa__sed the baby to 1,200 in 2 days....so the drop in HCG levels also may help trigger bleeding to continue too a bit.

I forgot to say I am really sorry about the loss of your baby. I know first hand how horrible it was to wait for 2 weeks for it to happen, but I started to divorce my mind from my pregnancy after a few days after the heart stopped. But the pain is relentless.

Thanks for your responses. Honestly I almost think I wouldn't mind if the bleeding just started so I can get this whole process over with. I also feel like I accepted the loss of the pregnancy a day or two after I got the bad news. My concern now is my own health. I'd prefer not to have a D&C but as time pa__ses, it looks like I won't have a choice. I was hoping my body would do what it needs to do and I would deal with each aspect - pain, bleeding - as it was happening. I wonder if that still might happen.

Hi dona, like the other girls, I had to wait. I found out about it 3 weeks after the baby stopped growing and didn't m/c for another week. So I only knew for 1 week, but everything had ended 4 weeks before I m/c naturally. just like linds almost everything came out in a 12 hour period and my hcg plummeted. I started spotting about 3-4 days before the miscarriage. The day of the cramps were worse and every time I stood up i had to run to the bathroom--it was more like a gush, sorry tmi, but I think we all know how it goes...and each time I thought it was done it would happen again. Horrible part for me was that I had to "catch" the tissue to take to my dr. for testing, so I used disposable tupperware that I bought in advance and took it there first thing in the am when it happened, then ended up having to go back 2 more times. Finally the nurse told me to stop...lol, ok it's not funny, but now I can laugh at it. Boy, I don't think any of that was helpful or positive at all, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this c___p. I wish we'd all get pregnant and have one big happy 9 month party on here...{{{HUGS}}}

I had a blighted ovum but there was never a sign of a fetus. I spotted in early pregnancy but wasn't concerned because it was brown and I spotted for 3 months with my daughter. I opted not to wait and my doctor did the D/C on me the very next day. I don't think I would've been able to go through it as easily if I would've had to pa__s it myself. Luckily my doctor knows me pretty well and could see that I just wanted everything out of me. I'm so sorry for your loss :(

Last night, exactly two weeks after being diagnosed with a blighted ovum, the miscarriage started - really bad cramps followed by heavy bleeding and pa__sage of clots/tissue. There was some spotting earlier in the day but the real event occurred at around 9:30pm and lasted until around 1am. Then at 4am another strong wave of cramps and again heavy bleeding, etc. Since then there have been a couple of shorter similar waves. I finally feel ok but it's now day 2 and I don't know if the pattern will continue with the same intensity or if the worst is over. Overall, it was extremely painful but manageable. It might have helped if I had had a good painkiller. Extra strength Tylenol didn't help at all.

Dona when I was having my m/c on day two i was pa__sing huge golf ball sized clots and cramping so bad I went back to the hospital where they gave me a shot of morphine and gravol. Im usually really sensitive to drugs and I get really effected but I could still somewhat feel the contractions. maybe go to your dr and ask for some pain medicine if it continues. Sorry for your loss.

I woke up with really bad cramps in my abdomin and lower back. I knew something was terribly wrong. I called my doc and she said to come in and get an u/s. I did and it showed no heartbeat and development stopped at 6 wks 3 days. She wanted me to do a D&C that day, but I couldn't take everything in at once. Since I am Rh negative, she told me how important it was to get the Rhogam shot once I start bleeding. The next morning, I started bleeding - first light to medium, then soaking pads in an hour. I called her back and she scheduled the D&C that afternoon so that I could also get the shot. I was also planning to travel out of town so she didn't want me to deal with heavy bleeding and not be able be under her care since she knows my history real well.
