Hi my name is Karla. This is my very first pregnancy (13 weeks)and I am very excited but also paranoid. Is there any way that I can tell if I have a miscarriage or if my baby is still alive? Please help.

You can get your doctor's permission to rent a doppler and try it at home, but you might not be successful with it just yet. Your doctor could do an u/s or check for fetal heart tones. Otherwise, there isn't any other way to tell just yet. It won't be too long and you might start feeling it. I felt my first at around 17 weeks. But unless you have signs of a m/c, try to not worry about it. Good luck :)

Hi Karla; concern for your baby is so natural - but really; unless you have serious concerns or symptoms of m/c - you should try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Where do you live? In Australia, they offer an u/s at 12+ weeks to see how your bub is progressing - and I'm pretty sure there are similar procedures in the UK, Canada and the US. So if you're looking for a little rea__surance, ultrasounds are a good way to go. Congratulations for reaching the 2nd trimester!!!

JuJu; I am not familiar with what an u/s is but I am a__suming it stands for ultrasound. I live in the United States and I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks beacuse I threatended to miscarriage but I also had a doc app less than 2 weeks ago and we heard the babys heartbeat it was strong, I am just so paranoid because I have read all these people who thought they were so far along and reallt weren't it is so scary!! Thanks for the advice, everyone!!

If you've heard a hb, there's only a 1-5% chance of losing the pregnancy. You'll be OK :)
