Hi, I've been waiting to have a natural miscarriage for over a week since my embryo has died. As it hasn't happened yet I'd like to take drugs/hormones to induce it. Am seeing my doctor next week but in the meantime what drugs do they normally prescribe for this? I dont want to go the surgery route but I can no longer wait for a natural miscarriage as I hear it can take weeks and even months and I couldn't bear that.

I believe they give you an injection of Methoxtrexate. That's what I've read anyway. I've heard other women say a D&C is must less painful as a natural miscarriage. Depends on how far along you are. I heard a D&C is not painful at all. Best wishes to you....

I started to spot when I was 8 weeks along. The us showed the baby had died at 5 weeks... It took another week to start the m/c. But all I lost was lining, nothing else. After 10 days of loosing blood I saw the doctor again and d/e was scheduled for two days later. The night before d/e I m/c on my own. Just some mild cramping and one cramp a little more painfull, but nothing like labor.... And then I lost the sac etc... It was not painfull and I still had the d/e the next day. Just to make sure nothing was left behind. Four days later I stopped spotting and that was it. Now it has been 4 weeks and I am waiting for af. Hopefully it will arrive soon! Hang in there, the waiting is the worst. Don't fear d/e because it seems a big deal b/c of anestheasia but I was home a few hours later and felt great , no pain or anything... Good luck!

Nica, I was in a similar situation. I found out at 12 week check that there was no heartbeat. Totally shocked and devastated as there was no signs. I had a friend m/c at 12 weeks, her dr. encouraged her to wait until she miscarried naturally, she said it was hell. Just like labor on the floor of the bathroom and she didn't know what to do with the "tissue" she said she didn't realize it would look like a baby. I couldn't do that, so I had a d/c on Wednesday the 9th. Had just a twilight anesthetic, you're out but its MUCH less than general anesthetic and lasts about 15 minutes. Dr. told me that the risks are the same either way, d/c or naturally, risks are...... damage to uterus, infection, hemorrhage. If you want to get it overwith and move on, which I did, I'm glad I did the d/c. Very little pain/cramps, and very little bleeding after. I go to the Dr. in 3 weeks to make sure no hormones left, then hopefully resume cycle and hopefully we try again. I'm 38 years old, so time is of the essence for me. Good luck, whatever you decide.
