Has Anyone Else Experienced Something Of The Sort

Last week I went in to my doctor's appointment for my 14 week. They couldn't hear the heartbeat so they scheduled an ultrasound. I should have been 16 weeks and there was no fetal heartbeat and no fetal movement. They told me I had a missed miscarriage. The baby was at 12 weeks old so it has been in my body for atleast a month. I am getting a D&C tomorrow. Is this common to happen? The fetus staying inside the body for that long? Or is it just something that iswrong with me? I am just looking to see if anyone else has ever gone through this.

There is nothing wrong with you. I had a missed miscarriage on October 3rd. I was a little over 13 weeks but it looks like the baby didn't live past 10 weeks. they scheduled my D&C the next day too but I didn't make it that long. About an hour after I got home I started bleeding every where. We made it back to the hospital and I lost my baby on the ER floor. They did my D&C a few hours later. It's a horrible feeling and I understand what you are going through and I am so sorry for your loss. Give yourself time to grieve and I can say this site and the ladies here have helped me sooooooooo much. It's hard to go through this but it is comforting to know there are lots of other women out there who are going through the same thing. I just got my period today, so my husband and I will try again for a baby maybe next month. I think I need a little more time to heal emotionally. Good luck to you and I will keep you in my prayers.

I had a miscarriage 11 days ago. I also had a missed miscarriage. We had a heartbeat at 5.5 weeks. Then when I went back at almost 8.5 weeks, there was no heartbeat and movement. The size indicated it probably stopped around 6 weeks. I am told that it is common for the body to retain the fetus for some time. I think it has something to do with the fact that your body is still producing a lot of pregnancy hormones so the fetus is not expelled. The body is a very strange thing, I know. But yes, your question is valid. I didn't understand it eitehr. I had no bleeding or cramping. But if gone untreated, it would have eventually expelled the fetus on it's own. But it can also cause infection if it stays in there too long.

hi MShell, i felt the same as you until i came on here, i had never heard of a miss misscarriage. I was nine weeks and my baby had stoped developing between 6-7 weeks. My body expelled my fetus on sunday just gone 4 days after my scan, it was the worst 4 days of my life. I have to have another scan next week to make sure everything has gone. So there's nothing wrong with you there are so many women on here thats it's happend too good luck Kat xx

my miscarriage took 3-4 weeks to happen naturally after development stopped. it seems pretty common, though obviously distressing.

I had a similar experience. Went in for my second ultrasound after seeing the heartbeat at 14 weeks, and the baby died around 10 weeks. I had absolutely no signs of a miscarriage. I also had a D&C. I am so sorry for your loss. Most likely, there is nothing wrong with you. This website has helped me realize just how common this situation is. I hope that you can give yourself time to grieve and that you have people around you that can be there for you. Let us know how you are doing.

This happened to a friend of mine and instead of having a D&C she went home to wait for her body to finish it. I think that sounds awful. I couldn't do it. I would have to do as you are. It was terrible for her. Good luck to you.

Oh I just wanted to add that my friend got pregnant not too long after all of this and now has a perfect little girl. So don't give up hope:)
