HCG Levels Going Up During Miscarriage

I'm going through a miscarriage that is taking a looong time, so I finally have a D&C scheduled. I keep getting blood tests to see if the HCG level is going down, but it is actually going up, very slowly (its at 41) . Has anyone had this experience? My Dr. is guessing its just leftover tissue thats causing it but seems strange to me...

Not really sure what to say to that one, but if the pregnancy was progressing normally your levels would rise at a very quick rate. It would seem to me though that you are still progressing but not as you should. Keep us posted and let us know when you know more

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know tissue left over can cause you to not go down, but didn't kow it would cause you to go up. Hmm. I'm sure you'll feel better after the d&c- it's very good closure! ( I had one 5 weeks before).

I foound this on a site I was looking at forHCG: Be aware that even when a pregnancy is miscarrying the levels can slightly increase for a while, but not at the rate expected if the pregnancy was progressing normally.

Thanks for responding, everyone. Its very comforting were all get pregnant first to have a miscarriage, so its going to work out sooner or later! Good luck to everyone.

Sorry to hear that.I had the same problem. my doc said that your body still thinks that it is prego and that i had pieces of placenta, womb, and what not left in there. it went on for a while before we finally had to do a d&c. if you cant manage to miscarry on your own d&c is the best way to go.
