How To Get Through A Miscarriage

Happiness to come - April 26

Like many of you I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks. It was my first pregnancy and I have a lot of questions. I had a d & c on April 18th after I miscarried naturally on April 17th. I have not had any bleeding since. I am now wondering what I can expect in regards to my next period and ttc again. Also, many of you seem to know your HcG levels and I am curious as to how you know this. Lastly, emotionally I am a mess any words of wisdom? THANKS

Happiness I am sorry for your loss. I have had two miscarriages, the first last June and the second in December. It took a little over a month for AF to return and then cycles were "irregular" for a few months, I am normally a 28 day, but they were longer and then shorter for a while. As to the HcG levels, on each miscarriage my doctor had me go in weekly for blood test until they were down to 0 (I miscarried naturally both times). Emotionally I found it very hard to deal with both times, and it took at least a month before I stopped feeling exhausted and back to my regular self. I still think about the babies very frequently, especially since I do not know what went wrong, but there is always hope for the future....I just did a test this morning and once again I am pregnant and hoping for the best. Take it easy, get lots of rest, and cry if you want to.

Thanks Marie! Congratulation to you! I am hoping for the best for you too!! I wonder if the return of a/f is different after a d&c...any thoughts? It is good to hear that I am not alone! Right now I am surrounded by many wonderful friends who are preg. and happy...very difficult emotionally!! You need to rest and take it easy too! THANKS

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my second child in January at 11.5 weeks naturally at home, no D&C. I think that has been the most difficult thing I have ever been through. To cope, I just let myself cry or scream or whatever I felt like for the first few weeks. It was a week before I felt like getting out of bed. It was another couple of weeks before I could leave the house. It was months before I could go to the mall. I also am a certified readaholic, so I read several books on miscarriage -- one medical, three on spiritual and emotional healing -- and of course, this forum. I conceived again 3 weeks to the day of my m/c, so your body can return to normal very rapidly. This pregnancy, while I have some complications, is healthy and probably going to go to term. But I still think of that lost baby quite a lot. I did not follow my HCG levels down with hpts or with my midwife. Some doctors/patients are more obsessive about it, but I couldn't see the point. You can't hurry it down anyway, and your body knows what to do. She merely said to watch for AF in 4-6 weeks, which means you ovulate again in 2-4 weeks. But take care of yourself, do whatever you need to to help you cope, and know you are not alone.

Thanks Susan!! I am sorry for your losses as well! I am wishing a very healthy and safe pregnancy...congrats! My doctor said to wait until I had two a/f until I should ttc again. I have to go back to see her next week so I will see what she says! The other part that I find difficult is that I am a teacher and I teach in a school with very young teachers...all of whom are pregnant...it is just sooooo difficult to be around!! Thanks again for your feedback and good luck to you!
