Is A D Amp C Necessary

I found out today that my baby has died. I was 7 weeks, but they say that the baby must have died at 6 weeks. My Dr. told me that I will m/c on my own in a week or so. I have never had any spotting or cramping. Has anyone gone through this and if they did. Did you need a d&c after you m/c. I am not sure if everything will come out on its own.

Im am sorry for your lose Dawn. I had a miscarriage in Jan. at 10 weeks and i also had a natural m/c. My doctor told me that I would pa__s everything on my own, and i did. So a d&c was not required. I believe they do a d&c if you are further along or they feel your unborn baby cant pa__s on its own. You should be fine but if you do have concerns about anything being left behind, you can go back to your doctor afterwards and get checked out. I hope this helps you. :)

Dawn - I am very sorry about your baby. As for the d/c debate, it is truly a personal decision. My doctor, who lost a baby herself a few years ago, said it could be a matter of days or weeks before my body would have a natural m/c. She said I could go home and wait, but she would insist on the d/c if it hadn't happened within three weeks. Even if I did have a natural m/c she said that i might still have to have a d/c if anything was left behind. I opted for a d/c right away just because I couldn't walk around just waiting for a natural miscarriage. What if it happened while I was at work during an appointment with a client? Or at the grocery store? Or at the denist? Or while I was at home all alone by myself? I wanted it to happen on my terms with my husband beside me and my doctor caring for me. I wish you the best as you sort through all of this.

sorry for your loss. my baby died at 8 weeks, unfortunately I didn't know until I spotted at 12 weeks. The dr wouldn't do a d&c and I finally m/c naturally 4 days later. I hope u don't have to wait that long to m/c . After a m/c you will be sent for u/s to ensure it was a complete m/c and your blood will be tested for HCG levels. best of luck

i was given 3 options, the first was the d&c, the 2nd was pills that can be inserted into the uterus, and the 3rd was let my body pa__s it naturally which i opted for, and i didnt have to have a d&c, i think that doctors only do that if you didnt pa__s everything on your own, then they would have to clean out your uterus to prevent infections from starting, it took me about 2 weeks to pa__s the baby, and it came fast, and i had some bleeding for quite a while, but my doctor monitered my HCG levels and they were dropping normally. i just realized i was rambling, but i hope my answer helped you. i am sorry to hear of your loss, my heart goes out to you and all the other girls

I have known several people who have had D/C's after miscarages or etopic pregnacy's and the doctor usually waits for the fetus to pa__s naturally. If it does not then the preform the procedure it is less traumatic than an abortion as you know the fetus is dead and you are having a procedure to 'tidy things up' as my darling sister put it. She was back at work the next day.

Hi Dawn, sorry for you loss - I miscarried at 10 weeks and found out at 12 weeks. My doctor gave me tablets to induce the miscarriage - when I went for a checkup she said everything looked fine - but i asked for an ultrasound - found out there was retained material...got cleaned out...Dr said I should be fine - no need for an ultrasound - I didn't trust her so I went for another and just yesterday I found out that there may be some retained material...so having said all of that - I agree it is your decision whether you want the D&N or want a natural one...in any event I would suggest you go and get an ultra sound done...Wish you all the best !

I found out at 7.7 weeks that mine had just died at 7 weeks. Two weeks after that I still hadn't miscarried - had no cramping or spotting at any time. So I had another ultrasound and the fetus hadn't changed position, indicating that I probably wasn't going to miscarry by myself. SO I had a D&C, which is what you may have to do. From what I hear, a D&C is better than doing it naturally - a lot less pain. I didn't have any pain or bleeding after the D&C.

Hi, I had a D&C done under local anaesthesia 2 days back. I was 8 wks and baby measured 6 wks with no hb. I started miscarrying at 10.5 wks with real bad cramping and bleeding. After 2 days ultrasound showed some material leftover so got D&C done. Made me feel better physically and emotionally. Was really hard waiting for it to happen naturally.

I am scheduled for a d&e on Thursday if I haven't pa__sed anything by then. I am a little nervous. The Dr. explained the difference between a d&c and a d&e. Has anyone else had a d&e? I have never had surgery before and don't really know what to expect with the anesthesia. But my husband will be with me so that makes me feel a lot better. I feel somewhat relieved knowing that I don't have to wait longer than Thursday to get this over with. I have not been able to sleep very well. It may sound a little weird but I was torn between waiting and m/c naturally or do the d&e because if I go naturally I get to keep my baby with me a little longer. For those who have had these procedures done. How do you feel(emotionally) after the surgery? I am afraid I will be a wreck!!! I am taking this pretty hard.

Dawn - Good luck tomorrow. I know you're nervous. I don't know what it is like to have a d&c or d&e because I m/c'd naturally. I do know that it hurts no matter what. A natural m/c is quite painful. Not to mention you see the tissue and sac and all that. It was awful. I hope your surgery goes smoothly. I'm sure it will. Thinking of you.

Hi Dawn I am sorry for your loss. I was 13 weeks pregnant with my first pregnancy and i went to my midwife and she could not hear babies heart beat. went for ultra sound and my baby pa__sed away at 9 wks they think. There were no signs of misscarriage. I actually felt better than I ever did. I kept saying to people I dont even feel like I'm pregnant. I had a D&C two days ago and my husband never left my side. I am in no pain and I am have accepted my loss and were going for counsiling. I cant wait to get pregnant again.....

HEATHER - April 26

i AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. i HAD NO BLEEDING CRAMPING.. ANYTHING TO TELL ME MY BABY HAD DIED. I WAS IN FOR MY 12 WEEK CHECK UP AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO HEARTBEAT AND A SONOGRAM SHOWED THE BABY TO HAVE STOPPED AT 9 WEEKS. I DID HAVE TO HAVE A D & C BECAUSE 3 WEEKS HAD PASSED AND MY BODY JUST WASN'T GOING TO DO IT ON IT'S OWN. I ALSO DID NOT WANT TO WAIT AND PASS IT ON MY OWN. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
