Is Anyone Currently Taking Or Has Taken Progesterone

Hello ladies, I've had two consecutive m/c's and am now 4.5 weeks along. I'd like to hear from those who have taken or are taking the progesterone suppositories. Did you lie down for awhile after the dose? I am very nervous about this third one. I am praying this will be the miracle drug I need to stay pregnant.

I took the progesterone with my current pregnancy (16.5wks.) after three miscarriages. This is the furthest I have made it. My progesterone was low with two of my losses, so we started it as a last ditch hope when I started spotting with my current pregnancy at 5wks. I thought for sure I was going to loose it too, but I am still pregnant! I didn't take the actual suppositories, but I used the oral prometrium pill as a suppository. My insurance wouldn't pay for the actual suppository, but it would cover the prometrium. I used and empty tampax applictor to get it up there next to the cervix. I had to lay down for about an hour since mine went is as a solid and needed to melt. The real suppositories are already in a cream or wax form so they melt very quickly, but you still need to lay down for a while for it to absorb. I stayed on it until 14wks. Good luck!

I was on 200mg of Prometrium three times a day, taken v____ally. I didn't lie down afterward and my OB never told me I should. I inserted it with my finger. The pg didn't make it though (even AFTER a nice healthy heartbeat). My progesterone level was pretty low though. Since this was my 2nd m/c, my OB wants me to start getting tests as soon as I get my BFP with the next one.

Kara, I have the Prometrium also. But the problem with the tampon applicator is that the pill is so small, it falls through the applicator. Like snickelfritz, my OB said to just insert it with my finger and no need to lie down. Of course, I will try to lie still when I am at home but I cannot at work. I see all pregnancies as different. My blood work was all normal so if this fails, I'm not sure what to do next. But alas, I am thinking positive and looking forward to a 2006 baby! Thank you for your feedback ladies.

hi I used natural progesterone cream and that worked for me very well with no ill side effects and I now have a healthy baby boy 8wks old I had a 2 kids I am 35yrs old and then I had a mc at the beginning of 2005 doc said low progesterone so I did a bit of research and found the natural progesterone is the best and safest and you can use thru you whole pregnancy which I did the only effects I found it having is positive...healthy baby with above average intelligence so far my little guy is very alert and strong in fact he could hold his head up on the day he was born...not for long times of course but he was holding it up himself.....well good luck and I hope this helps just check out the natural progesterone do a google search....

I used a regular size tampax pearl applicator and it would hold the 200mg ones just fine. (the 100mg are a bit smaller) I did have problems with the standard cardboard tampax applicator, but the pearl ones seemed to work just fine. -- Snickelfritz -- I had that happen with one of my pregnancies too, but the doctor said their very well have been chromosonal problems as well as low progesterone. My progesterone came back fine with this pregnancy, but due to the spotting, my RE up'd my dose since new research shows that it can help the placenta grow a little faster and stronger to help support the pregnancy when it is in trouble. They are still finding out more and more about it all the time.

Kara, Thanks for the info. I have the small 100mg pills taken 3X a day. Sorry for a TMI question, but did you see remnants in the toilet? There is some greasy residue sometimes and I am panicked that it is not absorbing right. My ultrasound is March 17th.

Kara, this was my 2nd m/c in 6 months. We think that I might have had low prog with the first one. But in my opinion, the low prog was just an indication that the pg was not going to make it. I don't think I lost the pg BECAUSE my prog was low. But, my OB is being extra cautious and is going to run some tests on me to see if I'm a carrier for anything. Also, when I get pg again, I'm supposed to come in immediately for testing and possible supplements. We didn't discover my low prog. until 8 weeks with this pg.

I took the suppositories twice daily (100 mg each). I have had three miscarriages in ten months of each other (Aug 04, Oct 04, June 05). I also have two children who I required clomid to conceive. They believe the clomid raised my progesterone levels to substain those pregnancies. I tested at a level of 18 at 4 weeks. They wanted to see me over 20 at least. I am now starting week 27 with an active baby boy. I did take the suppository in the morning and was advised to lay on my back for at least an hour. I took it also before going to bed at night and stayed down a few hours at least before bathroom breaks or up with kids! I also stayed on it through week 14.

Kristine - March 7

Cabbie, I asked Kara and I'll ask you as well. Did you ever see any remnants of the suppository when using the restroom?

Cabbie - March 7

There was always extra discharged caused by the suppository. You have to remember that a part of the suppository is the progesterone and some of the suppository is the delivering agent. Its the same with anything you use like yeast infection meds, etc. Its never all used up.

Kristine - Yes, I had fallout too. Yuck! I also noticed that the melted prometium really irritated my external skin too. I had to change my panty liners often to keep my skin from burning and iching. How long are you going to stay on it?

Kristine - March 7

I don't know how long I am supposed to be on it. I am having a hard time feeling a connection this time. I believe that when you lose your babies, your mind plays tricks on you until you know all is fine. It's like your mind doesn't want to set you up for failure. It is quite sad when you think about it. What is supposed to be an innocent time is filled with anguish. I go to my OB on the 17th so we'll see what happens from there. I am relieved to hear others had the same discharge.

Kristine- I had 3 miscarriages before this pregnancy (and now live births)and the only cause was low progesterone. They ran test and no chromosome problem or anything. Just low progesterone. You have to take the supplements right after you find out your pregnant to sustain it. If you take it too late, like I did on my last.. then it wont work. It was too late for my last one, but 13 days after conception on my current pregnancy I had a + HPT and was put on supplements right away. I was put on the highest dose aside from the shot. Its called Crinone. It comes in 4% and 8%. I was on the Crinone 8%. It is a v____al gel and comes in its own applicator. Some insurances dont cover it, but it worked great. I only had to insert it once a night before bed. Sometimes in the morning a little would leak out. Said to be normal. I had to take it until 12 weeks. At 12 weeks gestation.... 10 weeks from conception the baby produces it on his own. I am now 31 weeks and its in my med. records that once I find out I'm pregnant I have to go on the supplements right away. They ran test and if I didn't take them with this pregnancy, I would have had another loss making it my 4th. So, it does work!!! Good luck!!!

Daniella - March 8

I meant (no live births) yet.... wow, sorry for the typos.

Kristine - March 8

Daniella, That is the first I have heard of Crinone. I began Prometrium the night I got a bfp. That is 4 weeks after my last lmp. I hope it is good enough to carry he/she. I also do not have any chromosome issues so they a__sumed it was the progesterone. You must be so excited that your due date is soon. Congratulations!

Helene - March 27

Kara H - I am 5 wks and the doc is putting me on progesterone supplements. I am going to pick them up now. My progesterone came back at 10.2. DO you know what your was at 5 wks? I am asking because you started at around the same time as me. I am hoping that we are catching this in enough time. Daniella - you probably already saw this on the other post. I know you started early, but what was too late the last time? Was it after the heartbeat was slowing down, or was it sooner than that? I am so very anxious. The hcg levels are good (2,400) but the d__ned progesterone has me worried.
