Ok...So I'm very confused....I saw the doctor last night (not my regular one, he was busy)...and she did an u/s b/c my HCG levels are taking a while to go down..Everything looked good thankfully! But they are almost down... I should know later what they currently are at... Last week they were 15..and it's been a little over 2 months since my D&C... So that was my 2nd loss... My first loss was 3 years ago at 16 weeks and then this one at 8 weeks.. The doctor said it is very common and I have one gene mutation of MTHFR...she said she can't say if it caused my m/c's but it's def. a chance... She said they will put me on extra folic acid, B vitamins and my prenatal..and baby aspirin and probably the progesterone...and I have to start it before trying..I wanted to try in a couple of weeks but I don't know if it's too late to start taking everything...Anyways.. I don't know the specifics of MTHFR.. Can I still have a baby? I was so upset last night to find this out..and as long as its totally treatable and a gurantee that I can have a baby.. I am fine with it.. Please any insight... What is this I read about have a chance for down syndrome??? I'm so confused..and sad...

Hi Erica, I am so sorry to hear about your losses. I found out that I have 1 strand of MTHFR after my second miscarriage this past May. I do have a 9 year old son and my pregnancy was normal with him. So, evidently the MTHFR didn't effect him. I miscarried last Oct. and last May and then they decided to do testing. They put me on progesterone, baby asprin, extra folic acid, and prenatals. I am hoping it works this time. I just started trying in Sept. And I am testing tomorrow. I am three days late. Hopefully, I have a sticky bean. Don't give up hope. I would go for it. Good luck!!

forevermissed, Thank you for your reply...Did you have to start all the extras a couple of months before TTC? Hopefully I can get a sit down with my doctor and go over everything...I wanna make sure I cover all the tests possible. *Fingers crossed for your BFP* .. Did they mention heparin or lovenox when you get BFP? Any info is appreciated. Thank you so much...I've been feeling betrayed by my body lately...But..one day at a time. Keep me updated on your results!! yay

I started the baby asprin, prenatals and extra folic acid the month of Sept. when we started trying. I started the progesterone three days after ovulation. I had a rough time after my last m/c and had to have a second d&c in Aug. My doctor told me that I only had to wait one cycle before trying again. So, I have only really had one normal cycle since my m/c in May. He also said that he didn't think with one strand of the MTHFR that I needed to do the shots. I had my homocysteine levels checked as well and they were in the normal range. I have asked two diff. RE's as well and they thought the extra folic acid would be enough. So, I guess we will see. I know how hard it is. Things will get better. What did your doctor tell you about the shots?

Thank you again for your responses. The doctor called to tell me my hcg is now at 9...uhhh..it's going down but very slowly..hopefull by next week it should be down to zero...It seems to drop 5 each week..but who knows! I haven't gotten to speak to my doctor yet but plan on scheduling an apt. to discuss everything imaginable. I too had my 2nd D&C. I will ask about the shots... I just wanna make sure I am fully prepared and taking all precautions. I will find out about my homocysteine levels. I hope they ran lots of tests though. I wanted my thyroid checked and some other things. Do I need to see a RE? or is my ob gyn good enough..He handles high risk but isn't a perinatologist. Did you have a full panel of everything done? I wanna do everything before I try again.. and I also want to start my folic and everything else now. But one of the doctors said let's just get my numbers back down to zero first.. Do you need to start the vitamins 3 months before TTC? Have your doctors said anything about that? thank you!

Hi Erica, I would definately wait till your numbers are at zero. I know how frustrating it is every week waiting for those levels. I hated it. It took my body forever to get rid of the hcg. Now, I don't know what my body is doing. I have pg symptoms, I am on day 33 and nothing. AF hasn't shown and I got a neg. test yesterday. I am going to wait till Mon. to test again. I hate being in limbo all of the time. I did not wait for three months while taking everything. My dr. didn't think it was necessary. I am going to a reg ob. But, I have been to a RE too. I think it is up to you as to whether or not you feel they are giving you what you need. I did have a full panel of tests done. MTHFR was the only thing that came up. I hope you get things figured out and your levels get to zero.

I'm new to this forum. I too have MTHFR. I found this out after my 2nd miscarriage. My first was in Feb 2007

Sorry the rest got cut off. My 2nd m/c was in May 2007. I have been seeing a RE after finding out that I am homozygous for MTHFR 677T. He has put me on extra folic acid, B6, B12 and baby aspirin. My dr said the MTHFR probably had nothing to do with my m/c since my homocystein levels are normal. My RE said that he will probably put me on progesterone supplements to help my uterus relax. My husband and I have been ttc for 2 months now. If I don't become pregnant this month then they will get more "aggressive" with helping us. ( whatever that means). If I m/c again then he will do a chromosome a___lysis. We are hoping for the best.
