We lost our son 10-11 at 18wks, I went for ultrasound and his heart stopped. After 9 hours of labor he was delivered and then I had to go through a d&c for retained placenta. Physically I feel I am healing. Mostly spotting at night only. Does anyone know how long spotting should last? Also, we have 3 children and my midwife seems to think that this time it was an isolated situation, and no reason we can't try again. How long do most people wait? Am I pushing myself because I want another baby and I feel like I am at fault for some reason. We had ordered testing on him and hopefully that will provide us with closure.

I am soory that you had to go through that. You doctor will usually tell you how long you should wait before TTC. I had a M/C at 12 weeks, resulting in a D&C and the doctor gave me the ok to TTC after my first normal cycle. You definately shouldn't have s_x for at least 14 days as you don't want to get an infection. BTW, we conceived on the second cycle after the D&C but it took me 60 days to get AF after the D&C. It is normal to have a delayed cycle up to 10-12 weeks.

The confusion I have is probably between my midwife who I normally see who said 1 cycle and the dr who did the d&c said 2 to 3. I liked the midwives answer best, but don't want to take chances. Do you remember how long you were bleeding from d&c? Also, is it normal to take antibiotic for 8 days?
