Not Sure If I Am Having A Miscarriage

On friday I was suppose to get surgery for pre cervical cancer. Right before the surgery they cancelled it and said my urine came back positive for pregnancy and took a blood test. The dr. said my HCG level was 250. I have been on the patch for 3yrs so I took it off. He said I was probably very early in my pregnancy and that he wanted me to come to the office for an appt between Nov 5th and 10th and that I should be around 9wks. So sunday morning I noticed some spotting. I got scared so I went to the emergency room. They took a urine sample and it came back negative so they took a blood test. The dr said it came back positive with a HCG of 74. He said I was having a miscarriage and sent me home. He did not do any type of internal or even an ultra sound. I find this kind of odd. I have still been spotting a little but its a light brown color and only shows up if I am wiping. I am so confused. My original OB/GYN is the one who took the first test and the second test was just done by the ER. I am calling my dr. tomorrow to get an appt. Anyone have any suggestions? I have never had any complications before and I have two other children. Thanks!

Hi Jenn, gosh you must be in torment, I am so sorry! I would definitely confer with your OB/GYN, as they will be more helpful in determining exactly what is going on. I don't mean to be negative and I do hope for the absolute best for you, but falling hcg levels are usually not a very good sign, and is probably the reason you got your negative urine test. Your ob/gyn will probably do another hcg test and maybe your levels will go up, it is still early. It is hard to tell unless they do a series of these blood tests to compare whether they are falling or just dipping, or rising. Keep us posted, I'm sending you my most positive thoughts. Take care.

Jenn, I'm really really sorry to hear that. You are in good company however - the women on this site have been an amazing comfort to me since my m/c in June. I hope this m/c for you will be very short and be over very soon so you can focus on getting your health up to top notch for your next little bean.
