Possilbly Going To Miscarry

After 4 yrs of ttc and nearly giving up, we got the news we were pregnant. I have had some recent health issues so I was a high risk for having an etopic pregnancy. The dr. did an ultrasound and all looked good. We went back today ( 2 wks later from the 1st ultrasound) so the dr. could make sure there was a heartbeat. No heartbeat was seen and the sac is not growing. The dr. said he is sure this will end in a miscarriage, but he would like to have a second opinion in 2 wks and then do a DNC if there is no heartbeat or if I have not miscarried by then. I asked him if I should have any hope and he said he does not want me to get my hopes up, because more than likely this will end. Has anyone been thru this?

Sorry to hear this..I have been through this in my case it did not end successfully..however I have read of many who have returned to have a heartbeat the following week. Did your doc mention how far along you are..because that is key. Also you should get some more bloodwork done. if your numbers are doubling then that would indicate things could be just fine as well. If the numbers are levelling out or not doubling that could indicate a potential problem. As well, if you are not cramping or spotting that is also a good sign so do not lose hope..get your rest drink alot of water and try to relax and let nature take it's course. For me I have had 5 losses..3 in the last year I am now pregnant for the 4th time in one year and just saw the heartbeat yesterday..so I am hoping this one is a keeper. Good luck to you and update when you can!!!

Kristin, thanks for the hope and good luck to you as well. I am about 7 wks , but we do not have a conception date. I have had some slight cramping, but no spotting or any discharge. I have been pretty sick for the past 2 wks or so with morning sickness all day and night. I finally started to feel well yesterday. My OB said this can be an indication that my hormone level is coming down. He said wk 9 is the peak week for morning sickness and if things were on the right track I would probably be getting sicker due to the increase in hormones. He did not say anything about blood work. What kind of pain can I expect during a miscarriage (if it happens before the D and C)? Will I be able to work or will it put me down in bed?
