Testing After D And C

I had a d and c Friday for a miscarriage at 9 weeks and am devastated. I understand some testing may be done on the products of conception that were removed. What does this involve, and what might it tell me? Can I expect any information at the follow up visit in 2 weeks, or is it just to verify my health?

When they did my d and c, they tested for genetic abnormalities and/or rare conditions that may have caused it. They will usually tell you at your appointment if anything was found, but usually nothing is. Usually, that early, it is a chromosomal thing and the body recognized it early. I'm so sorry for your loss. They will also check you to make sure you are healing ok and feeling alright. Hang in there.

I had a m/c at 9 weeks and was completely devistated, actually very depressed. I just found out last week that they did do testing on the tissue and my doctor told me that the detected three cromosome 15's, he said it was very rare and has never seen a report like that. So I of course had to obsess and go online to find out what that meant but really didn't find anything, other than a million different things on cromosomes. I am 40 and have three older children and want another baby so bad but I am so afraid of having to go through this again. I wish you luck and hope that you get the closure you need as well. I needed that because I was beating myself up thinking it was something I had done. Good luck!!
