Anyone know info the use of Methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy. I went to the doc today and they told me I had a possible ectopic pregnancy. Ultrasound was suspecious but not conclusive. My Hcg was just at 58. I'm only about 2 weeks pregnant, had heavy bleeding last week but my HCG are not doubling every 48 hours but doubling every 72 hours. I was so scared that I agreed to the Methotrexate shot. It's the same stuff the use for Chemo (cancer patients) but a lower dose. IT was either the shot or DNC. Anyone had one or know any info on it??? The doc never gave me info.

I had a shot of methotrexate a few weeks ago to disolve an etopic but it didn't work because I had endometriosis that blocked the drug from getting to the etopic. had to have a D&C and laproscopic anyway. The methotrexate is much less invasive and I hope it works for you. I didn't feel any pain - just a little bloated, but basically it was easy. It is the same stuff they use for Chemo patients but the dose is very low and the risks are very low. stay away from alcohol and stop taking your pre-natal vitamins because you shouldn't have too much folic acid if you are administered the shot. Bottom line: it is safe and better then the surgury. Hope it works!
