Waiting For 1st Period After D C My Story

Hi, I started spotting when I was 9 weeks which I was told was normal in pregnancy, but they sent me for an early scan the day before xmas eve. We were told that the baby only measured 6 weeks and no heartbeat, but they would check again in a weeks time to give the baby the benefit of the doubt. WE went back a week later and baby measured the same with no heartbeat so I was scheduled for a D & C the following thursday. I had the D & C and went home, only bled on the that day and nothing since. I'm so confused and shocked at all that's happened, we have a healthy 19 month old son, so it didn't even cross my mind that something would go wrong... naive I know...! We live in the UK and so we don't get blood tests to check our hormone level, so I did a pregnancy test on thursday one week to the day of my D & C to see if it was negative or not, it was positive, so I guess I'll do another test next week and hope for the best. When did you get your period after D & C, is anyone out there in the same boat as me...?? It would be great to talk to you, I don't really have anyone to talk to here, my friends although I love them dearly, but feel I need someone that knows what we're going through... Thanks xx

Hi Chimpette22 I am in the same boat as you. I started bleeding on the 1st of January - 10 weeks pregnant. Everyone told me its normal and that I should take it easy. 3 days later I started bleeding more heavily, went to the closest hospital (we were on holiday at the time) where the doctor confirmed my worst nightmare. I was having a miscarriage. I decided to go back home and have my doctor do the D&C. I also only bled for a few hours after the D&C, with no pain or cramping. 6 Days later though I started bleeding again, this time a pinkish discharge-like bleeding which went on for a week and a half. I did a pregnancy test 2 weeks after the D&C, which was positive - meaning my HcG levels hasn't returned to 0 yet. And I did another test on Teusday which was negative, so now I know my HcG levels are back to normal and I should have my period (hopefully) by next week. I don't know if you feel the same, but I'm driving myself crazy thinking about getting pregnant again. I can honestly say that when I'm not busy with work that is all I think about...I still can't believe it happened to me.

Hi Pikkewyn, Defiantely driving myself crazy about it all, I can't to be pregnant again, but I can because I know that I'm going to be scared that the same thing will happen again. I did another test 2 weeks after D & C and got a negative so I started doing ovulation tests to see if I would ovulate before I had my period, I got a positive on the ovulation kit 2 and a half weeks after the D & C. So at least I know my body is back and working again. My husband and I would love a little brother or sister for our son and so fingers crossed we will fall pregnant soon. Are you trying again?? It's great to be able to talk to someone that is going through the exact same thing. xx

hi ladies, its been about 3 weeks since my d&c. two days ago started getting egwhite cm . so i think i am ovalating around now. went to the doctor yesterday she said i should wait two afs before ttc. and i have to lose 10kg ....so i am just waiting it so hard.

sophieoakley - January 30

oh and also had my hcg tested on this wednesday it was at 45

Chimpette22 - January 31

Hi Sophieoakley, So sorry for your loss, I hope it helps you that your not alone in any of this. It's been just over 3 weeks since my D & C and I got a positive on a ovulation kit on the 27th so 20 days after my op. I was told to wait one cycle, but to be honest we've had unprotected since about 3 weeks after my op so if I'm lucky enough to be pregnant then i'm going to chalk it up to fate. I'm overweight too, but I wasn't told to lose any weight..?? How ridiculous is that, weight has nothing to do with carrying a healthy child..! Some professionals need to remember that. I'm still waiting for my AF which I think will come on the 4th if my cycle has gone back to normal. Keep me updated on your stories. Thanks xx

I had my miscarriage on dec.20 2009 & had the D & C on the next day. I only had light bleeding for one day & no cramping. I Just got my period on Jan.25th,Which sucks B/c I was hoping I would be pregnant again. I know the doc. said to wait at least 2 or 3 months but I have had a lot of people tell me that they or someone they know got pregnant right after m/c & went on to have healthy babys. This was our first baby & we had been tring for so long. I am like the rest of you. DRIVING MY SELF CRAZY..all I can think about is having a baby! I wish the best to all of you & I am so sorry for your loss.

Hi lowe_88 I'm sorry to hear of your loss, I can't imagine how you felt when you got your period... I know I'd be devestated. I'm still waiting for my period, but I'm also hoping and praying that I'm already pregnant again...but I'm to scared to do another HPT. I guess I'll wait another week and then do one. Hope you get a positive result soon. Lots of baby dust...

Chimpette22 - February 1

Hi Lowe_88, So sorry to hear of your loss. Here's hoping that you get a positive result next month.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Pikkewyn, Fingers are crossed for you too, hope you get a good outcome, when did you have your D & C, I think that we must have had it the same week as we're both waiting for our monthlies now. Fingers crossed for me and everyone else on this website xxx

My story is exactly like yours, pregnant and at 8 weeks started bleeding, scan showed 6 wk fetus and scanned again 2 weeks later no grow or heartbeat. Had D & C 3 day later bled slight next day then nothing (4wks ago). I have 4 healthy children. Im 32yrs old normal health and weight. I think I might be pregnant again just feel it. confused and terrified.

Chimpette22 - February 3

Hi Mother4girls, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you are pregnant, keeping my fingers crossed for you. Keep us updated. xx

mother4girls - February 3

Hi Chimpette22 I will be honest with you I have 4 beautiful girls and after the miscarriage and d&c experience I wasn't planning on getting pregnant again but I seem to fall pregnant really easily. Like you I never thought I would ever have problems carrying a baby but the whole thing has made me realise to value every pregnancy. If I am pregnant (me and my husband can always tell when Im pregnant) however difficult coping with 5 young kids will be we won't ever take it for granted again. I just wonder how it can be possible to get pregnant so soon after D&C.

Chimpette22 - February 4

Hi Mother4girls, I know exactly what you mean, I remember saying to my friend about week after we found out I was pregnant that I was bored of going to the toilet already... I kinda of feel like I bought on the miscarriage (which I know is silly), but I'll never take it for granted again. I've read on previous forums of people that have gotten pregnant 2 weeks after a d & c, so it is possible, I've also read that you won't get pregnant after a D & C is your body and womb isn't ready.. the body is an amazing thing after all. Please keep me posted on your story, I'm on 4 weeks from my D & C and hoping that I'm pregnant, I'm not even sure when I should take a test to check as not sure when I should be getting my period. Are you going to test?? xx

AndiLeigh - February 4

Hi Chimpette22, I also know exactly what you mean, when I found out I was pregnant I was ecstatic obviously, but jokingly said, that I was upset as I couldnt go out for a few drinks I had planned with my girlfriends that week....I miscarried naturally at 5 weeks.....I secretly felt perhaps the baby had sensed negative vibes! which is ridiculous, but us girls do think these things, no matter how silly! I too am now desperate to get pregnant again. I used the ovulation kits which showed I ovulated 18 days after my m/c, (yesterday actually), so heres hoping for a good result. I am also clinging onto the hope that you are more fertile after a miscarriage etc.........oh well will have to wait & see. Incidentally, this is my first ever post on any forum, and I must say how comforting it is to know I am not alone, in thinking these thoughts. Good luck to you, and all of you on the this forum, and please keep me updated on any progress.... wishing everyone loads of luck. x

Chimpette22 - February 5

Hi AndiLeigh, I shall keep my fingers crossed for you. I did a pregnancy test today but it was negative, but I'm not sure if that was too early to test or not, I'll give it a week to see if I get my period and if not then test again.. This was also my first ever posting on a forum, I found this site after we found out about my missed miscarriage but didn't actually write anything until a few weeks after my D & C, felt that I needed to connect with people that had/was going through the same thing as me so that I didn't lose my mind. Please everyone keep us updated on your stories, it really does help, not just us, but everyone that is in the same boat as us xxxx

Hi Chimpette22 & Andileigh I had a bit of brown discharge yesterday afternoon then nothing until today at lunchtime when it was little bit red and pinkish muscus. I don't think its a period but I've never had a D&C before this one so I dont know how the first period would be like (Had D&C on 8 Jan). I felt pregnant even though I hadn't been trying but I think one night we might have gone a little to far(sorry). Could it maybe be implantation bleed? Did you ever have this? I haven't ever with my other 4 pregnancies. I don't want to test because I think it might bring back all the emotional upset I had over New Year, it was the worst time of my life. The D&C was scheduled for the afternoon and they gave me a pessarie and that brought on the cramping and when I got out of bed for the loo I thought I was delivering a full size baby it was soooo distressing my husband panicked because there was blood and enormous clots all over the floor (sorry again). The Doc came in and straight away used rubber clamps and tried to pull whatever was left away. I had no pain relief and then when I didn't stop bleeding he sent me down for the D&C... my heart goes out to anyone who has down this numerous times. I hope I haven't freaked anyone out but I just need to get that off my chest. So I might not be pregnant but I am happy with whatever outcome because its whats meant to happen.

Chimpette22 - February 5

Hi Mother4girls, That is horrific, I'm sorry that happened to you... I've never had implantation bleeding so I'm not sure about your question... sorry. Although I have read that your period is usually heavier on the 1st one after a d&c, so doesn't exactly sound like your period. I really feel you after hearing your story it's absolutely horrible and I can't believe in this day and age that this could happen.. shocking! We found out about our missed miscarriage after I'd had some brown spotting while we're were christmas shopping in London, we raced back home and went to the hospital where they arranged a early scan for us the next day (23rd Dec). It was there that we found out the baby had no heartbeat, we had to go back in a weeks time to see if the baby had pa__sed naturally but it hadn't so a week after our 2nd scan I had the D & C... So so sorry that you had to endear not only the loss of your baby but also the utter carnage that happened at the hospital. Your in my thoughts & prayers xxxx
