Niseynice - January 7

I have been told by my ob gyn that I have the MTHFR gene as well as protien C deficiency. I have already had one miscarriage. I am not able to see an infertility specialist until later this month. I am very worried and nervous and am unsure if I should try to get pregnant before seeing the specialist.

Niseynice, I am not sure of the treatment for protein C deficiency, but I know for MTHFR the dr. will most likely have you take extra folic acid (up to 5mg daily as opposed to the normal 400-800 mcg that are in regular prenatals), extra B6, B12 and probably a daily baby aspirin. Beyond that they may do blood thinner shots. Some doctors start those right after ovulation, others do it at a positive pregnancy test and yet others don't start them until a heartbeat is established via ultrasound. I didn't start my blood thinner shots until 8 weeks. I am heterozygous for MTHFR C677T

I meant to say, you can go ahead and start the vitamins and baby aspirin on your own. It is good to do it as long as you can before ttc. There is absolutely no harm in any of them. Good luck!!!
