Advice From MD About Pregnancy Tests

I just talked to my MD and she said that she has seen a number of women who have had negative blood (Qualitative) and urine tests but were indeed pregnant. A Qualitative (like a urine and basic blood HCG. will give a yes or no, and has a cut off point (A women who is pregnant could fall below that number and be negative). She said the only way to find out for sure is to order a HCG QUANITATIVE- this detects the actual amount of HCG in the blood stream. A normal women should not have any HCG in there blood stream, while a pregnant women should. This test does not have a cut off number, you either have no HCG or you do. She has never seen a negative Quant test be falsely negative. Hope this helps

My quantative test was 2 and they say that is negative. So does that mean I have no HCG.

From what I understand its negative if its less then 5. Anything over 5 is considered positive (just very low).

I just checked and for a Quant_tiative serum beta HCG to be negative in 99% of non pregnant women had values <10mIu/mL. So 2 would be a negative result.
