Conception Confusion

Hello. My husband and I have been trying to concieve for a few months now. This month is the first time I used ovulation tests. So, on Christmas eve I took a hpt and it had a slight positive sign. I took another a few days later, and it was negative. I went to the doctor and it also was negative. I am almost a week late for my period. What do you think the problem could be?

Was the second hpt you took the same brand? Did the doctor do a quant_tative hcg, or a qualitative hcg? You want the quant_tative, it will give you the exact number. There is a possibility that you caught a pregnancy very very early and then something went wrong, but you aren't bleeding which is strange. I would go out and get a First Response hpt and use it in the morning with first morning urine. If it is negative too then maybe get the doctor to test you again witha quant_tative hcg. Quant_tative hcg will give you the exact level of hcg in your system, the qualitative hcg will only give a positive result if your number is 25 or higher, so if you were 24 it would say negative. I'm sorry I am rambling I am just typing as I think. Let me know what is happening.

The second was a better brand- a digital hpt. I am starting to think I may have seen an evaporaiton line with the first test(EPT). When I went to the doctor they didn't do a blood test on me, they used a urine sample. They said I may be just stressed out from Christmas and all and thats why my period has not started.

Digitals are NOT as sensitive as the others. That could be why the second test was negative. i would get a First Response, they are known to detect at 12.5 miu's/ml. I really think you should re test in the morning. The hpt's at the doctors office are all 20-25miu's/ml. Let me know what happens.

Ok, this is crazy! I took another hpt this morning(not digital). It was also negative. On the other hand- last night I used another ovulation test and it was positive. I know I ovulated once already this month. What is going on with me? I am going to have to make a doctor visit. I don't think it's possible to ovulate twice a month is it?

I read a study that showed that 30% of women ovulate twice each month. I would wait a week and test again with First Response and see what happens. If your period hasn't started and you are still getting negative tests I would go back to the doctor for a quant_tative hcg. Good luck!
