I took a hpt on saturday and it was negative, took one on sunday and it was positive. Went to drs on Tuesday and hcg was .33 and they said it was negative. BUT I am still about a week late and have br___t tenderness and bad on off cramping. I took another hpt today and it was also negative. what is going on? why did i get one positive? Is there any chance I am still pregnant??

HI ANNA - the answer to your question is YES - still possible that you are pregnant! Some Hpts are more sensitive than others and it also depends on how much you have had to drink before you take a hpt. ie. If you have drunk alot prior to doing the test then your urine is thinner and harder to detect the hcg and this can vary depending on the time of day. ie. even though they say best to test in the morning I sometimes find that hpts with me test stronger late evening. How did they know hcg was .33?? Was it a blood test? Even they have been wrong! I have had discussions wtih and read many posts from people on this site who felt they were pregnant, but had NEGATIVE urine and blood tests and miraculously 2,4,6 months later discovered they were infact pregnant. Some of the girls even had NEGATIVE US and were still pregnant! One of them had 4 US (Ultrasounds - 2 internal) and it still took 21 weeks for them to see that she was infact pregnant!! You have joined the boat with the rest of us and will have to wait and see unfortunately. Try not to stress too much, or buy a million hpts (like I did) and still have to wait and see. I am currently almost 2 1/2 months late and I'm NEVER late. I had 12 POSITIVE hpts very faint in the first couple of weeks then 3 negative blood tests. This followed by all my hpts going negative until suddenly 3 positives and now they are negative again with a negative US. AF (Aunt Flo) still showing no signs of impending arrival. Going tos see a specialist in a couple of weeks. With your POSITIVE test - how strong was the test line?? Was it within the time frame of 10 mins?? False positives are extremely rare, but some people read the results outside the time frame and confuse the evaporation line which is usually a greyish colour for a positive. Good luck and try not to worry. Marian

Hi ANNA - that being the case I would be inclined to believe the hpt and say CONGRATULATIONS - it sounds like you are indeed pregnant and in time other tests should show. Incase you have never been pregnant before - start behaving as if you are and take folate every day (reduces the risk of downsyndrome) eat regular meals and snacks like yogurt for morning or afternoon tea etc. Good luck Cheers - Marian

ANNA - Ignore the blood test!! Some of the other girls on the site had negative blood tests until they were 2 - 4 & 6 months pregnant. One of the other girls they continually told her pregnancy was in her head - Phantom fronted to the ER with stomach cramps and had a baby girl on the spot!! Blood tests can be wrong!! Dr's insist it is impossible, but read through other posts on this site and you which talk about negative tests and you will find they are WRONG!! One girl went to 3 or 4 different doctors. They all gave her different diagnosis from virus to early menopause. She took her baby back to show them what their diagnosis had turned into!! Try not to worry!! Marian
