My last period was August 16. Obviously I am very late. I took a test, which barely had the line showing I peed on the stick, which I would say is invalid. My husband then bought a two pack test of another brand. I took the first one and I sat there looking at it for a few minutes and it didn't show up positive. I left it in the bathroom assuming I wasn't pregnant. Just for curiosity, I looked at it about 45 minutes later, it was showing positive. I know I've read about evaporation lines, but this line was pink, not colorless. I took the second test in the package and basically the same thing happened. The next day (yesterday), I took yet another test. I peed on it, waited only a minute because I really didn't think I was, and went outside. About ten minutes later, my husband called me into the bathroom and there was a very faint line. It was a plus/minus test. The same sort of thing happened when I was pregnant with my son. The positive didn't show until later. A lot later than they tell you to read the test. I have read that you shouldn't read it after a certain amount of time because it could read positive, but I have taken more tests than I can count and they NEVER read positive accept my first pregnancy, after they tell you not to. SO, my question is...Has anyone ever heard of this?

Crissi - October 1st, 2005 2:15 PM

Well I am anxious to hear the answer here, too.

I took an Answer test 12 days BEFORE my period was due and got a faint positive so I went and bought an Equate 2 pack... After about 5 minutes I saw a haze but nothing definitive and left it there. My DH looked at it later (1-2 hours) and it was positive... the darn thing is very bright pink positive now 2 days later. PINK, not grey like you'd expect wit evaporation.

Later same night I took the 2nd Equate (yes, I am VERY impatient! :) and thought I saw a faint "t' to the plus sign. Again, a bit later it was darker pink, definite plus sign. Again, it is 2 days later and the pink positive line is even darker thatn the horizontal test line.

I have weird cycles and cannot be real sure when or if ovulation occured this month so the fact that I am now 17 days post LMP is a maybe at best.

Problem is I have taken another Answer, two First Response and another (single pack) Equate and see negative only. I am making myself crazy here and I am so ready for another baby!

Thoughts? Those two BRIGHT PINK plus signs are torturing me!

Crissi,
Thank you for the input! I love this site! Well I just took another test. Answer is one that picks up 25 mlU. So our goal was to see if it came up positive within 5 minutes. It had a very, very faint line. Now, I have read that it doesn't matter how faint it is, it's positive, of course if you have taken the test correctly. So although I am going to take another test in a few days, I really, really think I am! I'm so goofy, I have a positive here and I still can't believe it! I took about 8 tests with my first! Your HCG is supposed to double everyday in early pregnancy, so I figured I'd give it a shot today. I too, am so impatient!! You just have to know! We are so, very ready for another baby! So, Crissi, I can't wait to hear what happens with you! I wonder how many other people get positives after a long time!

Well, when I was PG last month (but m/c) I had taken a First Response test 3 days before missed period. It looked like it was going to be BFN so I thre it away after a couple minutes. The next day out of curiosity, looked at it again and there was a faint line. It was also pink and there. So I waited a couple more days and got a BFP. I wouldn't recommend it just because sometimes it's not always a BFP, but at the same time it's happened to me and others too. So good luck!

Alyssa,
Thank you so much for telling me! It is nice to hear that this happens to others! Right now, I really think I am because I got a pretty faint line within a few minutes. It's good that you looked at the test the next day! You know, I really think they should tell you to watch out for that in the pregnancy packets and test again in a few days if it comes up positive! It would sell more tests and what if these women who don't think they're pregnant go on a drinking binge and smoke? They really should tell ya! Congratulations to you Alyssa!

Crissi - October 1st, 2005 10:27 PM

Well that is good news! :) Hope it "sticks"!

I have sworn of the HPTs for a few days although on the way home DH asked if I was gonna take another tonight. Told him I had used all that we had and I was gonna wait a few days. Too hard to imagine the repeated disappointments.

I was a bit encouraged when I read (here?) that someone else had a positive with Equate when others were negative and was truly pregnant. I am now just 17 days past LMP and still about 9-11 days before I would expect AF again so chances are I am NOT going to get a BFP even if I were pregnant.

I have a prescription for progesterone suppositories waiting for me but will wait til I am mostly sure....

Anyone else have this experience? This is so hard as I have a history of infertility but am with a new DH and we already have 5 (his 2, my 3) but we are so desperately wanting "ours"!! I am only 33 so figure I have more than few fertile years yet.

ash - October 2nd, 2005 3:36 AM

WELL HERE IS WHAT I HAVE EXPIERIENCED. IF YOU SEE ANY LINE AT ALL THAT MEANS IT IS POSITIVE.... OF COURSE TAKING CERTAIN MEDICATIONS CAN GIVE YOU A POSITIVE TEST EVEN IF YOU NOT. BUT IF YOUR LATE, AND YOUR NORMALLY REGULAR , THEN IT IS A GOOD CHANCE YOU ARE. I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT , AND THE SAME THING KIND OF HAPPENED TO ME. I TOOK THE TEST ABOUT 5 DAYS BEFORE PERIOD AND IT WAS NEG WHEN I WATCHED IT. CAME BACK ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER AND THERE WAS A VERRRRY FAINT POSITIVE LINE THERE. WAITED ABOUT 3 DAYS ,AND THE LINE WAS DARKER AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES OR SO.REMEMBER!!! HCG DOESNT DOUBLE BUT EVERY 48 HOURS OR SO, ( THATS 3 DAYS) SO IT MIGHT NOT GET A DARKER LINE UNTILL THE HCG PRODUCES MORE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT. HOPE THIS HELPS!

Crissi - October 2nd, 2005 8:52 AM

Thanks Ash!

I am still acting as if I am until proven otherwise. I have NEVER had a BFN turn positive like this before...NEVER! The fact that I was so early before my period is due does concern me a bit. Pregnancy symptoms? Well I am a Mom to 5 and work a full time job (DH works from home) so the exhaustion doesn't matter! ;)

I have been quesy, sometimes downright nauseous. Lots of headaches and the nips are sensitive.

I will get another one soon, just waiting til closer to my period is due. Maybe by weeks end.

Crissi - October 2nd, 2005 2:05 PM

OK, now totally wigging!! DH and I had relations earlier and I had some pink spotting. AF not due for 9 days or so...

Implantation???

F - October 3rd, 2005 1:17 AM

Crissi, that's so exciting! A while back, I was a little late and when I did start, it was so light, I only saw pink when I wiped, exactly like what I've read about implantation bleeding. I took so many tests and they were all negative. I went to the doctor and it read negative. So anyway, I think because of that experience, my husband and I are just a tiny bit doubtful I am pregnant, even though we had 3 POSITIVE tests!!! I am going to call the doctor tomorrow or go to get a test. I will need proof for my insurance anyway. Well I can't wait to hear if you're pregnant or not!!!!

F - October 3rd, 2005 7:14 PM

Well I went to the doctor and got a pregnancy test. It came out negative. I was relieved! After thinking about it, I would rather wait until later. I'm so stupid! I miscalculated my period! I am more like a few days late, rather than like two weeks! I don't know, I guess I am just going to have to wait and if it still hasn't started, then I will take a test later.

Hi Ladies, I am new to this website and I think it is very interesting to hear similar situations from other people. I was on the pill for 5 years and stopped taking it at the end of April. I had a regular period. In June I was 11 days late and went to the dr for a test. It was negative and the dr explained to me that it could take a few months before I have a regular period. July pa__sed and still no period. I did a hpt on August 17 and it was negative. I had a regular period August 22 and my husband and I started trying around the 29th. I have not had my period since. I had a negative test one day after my missed period, but after reading all the messages here about false negatives, I sceduled a dr appt for Oct12. I will let everyone know what the results are!

Crissi - October 5th, 2005 5:51 PM

Well several tests later and still no positive. Feeling icky, blah, tired. Boobs hurt... etc. Either I am preggo or I am having some major PMS. Gonna get some more tests tonight. I am VERY edgy (just ask DH! :) and still feel like I am but maybe its all in my head. Being that AF isn't due for 5 or 6 days now not sure why I am stressing so much!!! :-) Guess cause I want it so bad. Is it possible those two positives were ovulation? How sad is it I am an RN and asking all these "dumb questions"?! I cannot figure how or why unless the LH surge was picked up then. Anyone heard of this happening with Equate? Will keep ya posted.

F - October 5th, 2005 6:46 PM

I did a little research about ANSWER and it turns out there are a lot of people who get false positives with ANSWER. I guess it picks up dh. So, it looked like FIRST RESPONSE was the best and it picks up more hcg than a lot of other brands, so I took it yesterday and the day before and they were negative. So NEVER use ANSWER!!! P.S. Crissi, I've got my fingers crossed for you! Good luck!

Crissi - October 6th, 2005 9:07 PM

Blow some healthy baby dust this way....

I took another Equate tonight (keep in mind I have had probably 3 or 4 neg Equates and others since those two) Took the one last night... negative. Tonight? Faint, but definitly there, positive line!!

Been on such a roller coaster that I am trying to NOT get too worked up. This one came up in the "normal" time and is there. DH saw it too and I didn't lead him to it... it is VERY faint but then again I am now something like 4-5 days BEFORE af is due so it could be. It also would explain the two bright positives (though these sat longer) as actually picking up the LH that accompanies ovulatuion.
Keep ya posted...

tasha - October 21st, 2005 10:54 AM

I am very curious to know the answer as well. I just had the same thing happen to me last night! I was supposed to start my period yesterday, by my calculations, but I didn't. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for the past 3 months and this month, we used an ovulating kit. So, I went to the Dollar Bill store and got a test. I came home and took it right away. Right away it started leaving a pink line under the negative part, but then my husband called me out of the bathroom for a quick second. I ran back and only saw a dark line which meant the test was negative. So I immediately threw it away and told myself I was not pregnant. Well, this morning I still have not started my period! So I got my test out of the garbage just to check it again for sure, and there was another line saying that the test was positive! I'm not sure if it means I am pregnant or not since it didn't show up right away. Maybe my pregnancy hormone isn't strong enough yet and that's why it took so long to show up on the test.

Maybe you should try clear blue digital as it will give you a yes or no.
