1 In 94 Chances Of A Down Syndrome Baby Anyone Have This

I'm 36 which puts my risk at 1 in 228. But I just got result from my blood work and with that and my age it is now a 1 in 94 chance. It is almost too late to do the amnio, I might get to do it but we don't have any time to waste. Has anyone been in this same situation. I need comfort. Please.

I am 29 and they found 2 markers for down syndrome on my ultrasound which put me at 1 in 97 chance. I did not get any bloodwork done and won't take the chance of the amnio. You can get the amnio at anytime, there is a chance of miscarriage before around 20 weeks and after that there is a chance of still birth or preterm labor. I will tell you that the blood work is not a very reliable source to go on. If you didn't want to get the amnio then you could wait for your ultrasound and they could tell you a little bit more there. No matter what that is still your baby and you will still love it no matter what. I have wanted a child for so long and prayed to God to give me one, he gave me what I wanted, I am not going to be picky about it.

I'm 47 & surprised w/being pregnant w/my 3rd child. My other 2 were when I was 39 & 41. I had amnio's w/all 3. My chances based on my age along (at 47) was 1 in 94. My amnio came back perfect. So, in my case, those odds were great. Think positively. It will be all right.

hi i had a 1 in 60 chance from results of blood tests and had amnio last week and got my results my baby fine. just worried now of misscarring im 19 weeks

the thing with those tests is there are always a high percentage of false positives. Try not to worry about it, it many cases, like Debby, the baby's are perfect. And if it does turn out downs syndrome, my friend who is only 26 had a d.s baby 11 months ago, and although she was devastated at the time, she said if she'd known how gorgeous he would turn out, she wouldn't have worried so much. He is a beautiful little boy, very loving a caring and quite intelligent. All the best, whatever happens it will be ok.

I'm 33 with a 1 in 150 chances per my blood work. Thursday is my ultrasound which they can give me a little more info, but no amnio for me(for what?) the baby is what it is.

What are the chances of being born with Down Syndrome?

Mrs O - April 13

Well we just found out 2 days ago that we are having a down's baby. I was glad i did the amnio. so i don't have to deal with that at birth. Plus it is a good thing I did the level ll ultrasound b/c the baby has "double bubble" stomach which is common in down's babies. So now I need to deliver at Baylor College of Med. in Houston b/c the baby might go to Texas Children's to have surgery on her little stomach b/c of the blockage. This way we are prepared for the medical attention my baby might need. There is a chance that the stomach could heal itself before birth which means no surgeries. That would be great. So I'm very thankful that we know our little angel has down's.

I am 33 and the Doctor says I have a 1 in 14% chance of a Down Syndrome baby from results of a blood test. They then did an ultrasound and found no markers for down syndrome, they noticed my due date was off by 10 days, so they recalculated the blood work results and now they say I have a 1 in 47% percent chance but I am not worried, I have heard that those tests are not always accurate and after seeing my baby during the ultrasound and them telling me that everything seems normal, I will just hope for that. My husband and I felt the amnio was too risky so we are not having that done. Either way, it's my child and I love it!!

Deb - April 15

I haven't gotten my results yet but I had my blood work done yesturday and the Doc told me that he really wishes that in most cases they didn't even have to offer that test due to the false positives and stress it puts mom under. But I had it anyway and am awaiting results but according to u/s so far my baby appears to be normal. Just be positive and hope that your's was one of the false positives. Although having a downs baby is a challenge if it is seen fit that your child is born with that disability then you will do fine. Try not to worry to much cause that's just stressing the baby out. Good Luck!!!

HI MRS O.IAM 28 AND HAVE A 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER MY DOCTOR TOLD ME WHEN IO GOT MY BLOOD TEST DONE WITH HER THAT THEY HAD TO DO AN AMNIO RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE THE TEST WAS SHOWIN DOWNSYNDROM,WELL ME AND MY MOTHER AND THE FATEHR TASLKED ABOUT IT AND DECIDED NOT TO TAKE THE TEST 2 DAYS LATER IN THE DOCTORS OFFICE THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS GOOD THAT I DIDNT TAKE THE AMNIO TEST BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE PUT A HOLE IN THE SAC AND THAT ANYWAY THE TEST RESULTS WERE NOT EVEN MINE AND THAT MINE WAS OK. NOT SURE HOW DO HANDLE YOURS BUT JUST DO WHAT U FEEL IS BEST AND I DIDNT KNOW THAT ITS EVER TO LATE FOR AM AMNIO I THOUGHT U CAN GET IT DONE WHEN EVER IS POSSIBLE.

Mellissa - April 21

I refused the blood test when my doc. offered it to me. I have known so many people who have had it done, and it came back positive for them, and they were so scared and worried and everyone I know that had a positive result, had a healthy baby. I just didn't want mine to come back positive and me have to worry for something that could be nothing...my mother's came back positive for my sister, and my sister was born healthy. I read that almost 80% of positives arefalse positives...

my AFP results were abnormal. I had my 18 week u/s today and they found one marker - fluid in the baby's kidneys. I'm 34 and my dr. is suggesting amnio. I think I'm going to refuse this as I'm more concerned about the risks of having that test. I'm glad I found this thread as I'm kinda freaking out right now.

This is just my opinion. My husband and I chose not to have any testing done at all. The reason is that we would not do anything different no matter what the results so we just decided there was no point. I would not want to have an amnio, the risk of miscarriage is just too high. I know a lot of people do not agree with this but my husband and and I have talked with our Dr. at length and this was our decision with our first and now our second. I am not naive to think nothing could happen. I have worked in the field of disabilities for over seven years and am very aware of what can happen, but for us this works. Good Luck.

Well I did the Amnio. and have recieved the results- our little angel does have downs' syn. I'm SO thankful we had the amnio so we can be prepared for birth, we actually have to deliver in a diff. hospital in case of complications. Our little girl might have to go into surgery after birth b/c it looks like she has a blockage in her stomach. So I'm thankful that we know so we can be prepared and give her the best medical attention she needs. (Tx. Children's in Houston)
