Anxiety Medication

Has anyone been taking meds for anxiety. I am 26 weeks and starting to really have some severe anxiety and I am scared for pre-term birth because of it. I don't want to take meds, but I also am very worried about what stress, anxiety, and no sleep can do to my baby. I would also love to hear from anyone who took these type of meds and had a healthy baby. Thanks!

Don't go near the benzodiazapines like Xanax. What a nightmare to use them even if you aren't pregnant. I'm speaking from experience. Can you find alternative ways of dealing with your anxiety like yoga, exercise, diet, journaling?

i started getting mild anxiety attacks a few weeks back. Prenatal yoga really helps with this along with other issues. I highly recomend yoga as they teach methods of cooling down and relaxing...also try going in for ma__sages and just pampering your self, I foiund that helps to relax as well.

Hi Susanna I have suffered with panic disorder for the past 3 years. I am 20 weeks pregnant and still get frequent panic attacks. My anxiety also stops me from sleeping, which is a real worry. I talked to my midwofe about it and she has rea__sured me that babies are very resillient and will not be affected by my stress. This is a real relief! Good luck

i take 1/2mg of xanax and am almost 18 weeks pregnant. i have been taking it all along, and had weaned it down to this tiny dose. i would have tried going without, but my dr. is one of the best and is not concerned about this drug, to my surprise, and that panic attacks, and anxiety are far worse for you and baby, so that is an option. the only thing w/ xanax is poosibility for withdrawl, that is his only concern, and so iam going off before the baby is born. my friend takes 2mg and is 9 months pregnant, and everything is fine but she can't go off, so iam hoping the withdrawl of the baby won't be too much. it's not as bad as people think and say, as my dad also works for the fda, so i come from a great backround. i wouldn't take it w/o the facts first, so iam comfortable with it. good luck, keep your body, soul and mind healthy or the baby can suffer!

i know this is an olde topic, but. i have severe panic/anxiety attacks, and i used to take Lexapro, now im on paxel, just wonderin, if i need to stop taking them? i ve had lotsa sympoms of preggers, but no + yet. any one know anything about this??

PAXIL, IS COMMONLY USED DURING PREGNANCY. WHEN YOU HAVE TO TAKE SOMETHING, IT IS ONE OF THE BETTER THINGS TO TAKE. UNFORTUNATELY, IT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME. I TRIED MOST EVERYTHING, AND XANAX IS THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS IT UNDER WRAPS. IAM ON A VERY LOW DOSE, AND THE DR.'S AREN'T WORRIED, AND IT KEEPS ME FEELING NORMAL, SO WHEN YOU NEED MEDS, YOU REALLY HAVE TO WEIGH THE BENEFITS AND RISKS, AND USUALLY THE RISKS ARE SOOOO SMALL, THAT THE BENEFITS ARE CLEARLY OUTWEIGHING THEM. DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR PAXIL. I KNOW A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THE SUBJECT!

I have been taking lexapro for about a year now.I recently stop taking birth control to clean my system out and to try to become pregnant with in the next year.i spoke with my doctor and he told me to continue to take the lexapro and if i still need it during the pregnancy he a__sured me it would be safe for the baby, and that he has had several women take the medication through the entire pregnancy.Has anyone out there done this? I'm so nervous that I will continue to need anxiety medication because I've tried stoping before and had to be put back on it. I'm afraid that when I am pregnant I will still need to be on an anxiety medication but i don't want anything to happen to our baby. Can someone please give me some advise??? Thanks a million=)

Hey....IM 23 weeks & just recently started zoloft for anxiety. my doctor prescribed me at 50 mg & said that it wont harm the baby! I was really worried also...however, my anxiety has been really bad for past 3 years so I needed to be on something. *crosses fingers*

Thanks you so much Sydney it really helps to hear that other people have the same problem as I do.I was on Zoloft originally and my doctor switched me to Lexapro this last year.Like I said before I get so nervous with this medication thing but the more I hear so many women are on anxiety medications especially while pregnant. I wish you and your baby the best!
